Excellent Book!,
By Sheila (Bronx, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hit and Run (Hardcover)
I read this book as it was a book that was on my son's summer reading list. It was an excellent book. Very well written and suspenseful. I really enjoyed it. However, I wish I knew what happened to all of the characters after the confession. Was there a trial? What happened? It would be nice to read a "SEQUEL" to this book. I would like to know what happened after the fact, to Quin, Jeremy and Laurie and the others and how this incident changed their lives.

How one moment can change your life forever. A bike ride she had took many times before babysitting as she had done before. One moment, changes everything. The other, a dream date that turns horribly wrong did they really hit an animal like he said or was it the girl on the bike? Looking back now she's not so sure, but she's about to find out.

Beer & sexual overtones in the first 10 pages,
By Mom in KS (Kansas City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hit and Run (Lurlene McDaniel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Bought this book at my daughter's middle school book fair. A few pages into it and she's brought it back to me asking if we can return it. Talk about bra sizes and guzzling beer, then a boy almost touching her boob, and that's in the first 10 pages. My 11 year old was very uncomfortable with it and it is going back.

this book didn't seem to be as great as lurlene mcdaniel's other books are, but i still enjoyed it. i currently own all but one or two of her books that are out, i love her stories, you can relate well to the characters even though you really just met them.

Hit and Run,
This review is from: Hit and Run (Hardcover)
This was a timeless and tragic story of what happens when a mistake is made and no one tries to tell the truth. I enjoyed the fact that this story was written in first person from the perspective of all 4 people involved. This story is centered on popularity and what teens will do to try to obtain it. This story was a little more grown up and I do not recommend it for anyone under the age of 14. It still gives you a new perspective on your life.

Another of Lurlene McDaniel's beautiful, moving novels. Told in the persepctive of four different adolescents, they all are connected by a terrible accident. Quin, an extraodinary athlete whose career hangs in the balance after a terrible mistake. Laurie, a quiet girl who finds herself admist all the confusion after simply agreeing to go on a date. Jeremy, a carpenter-in-training whose skills will be used to make something for Analise. And finally, Analise, the victim of a terrible accident who hovers between life and death, seeing the bright light and hearing her parents and Jeremy call to her to live. This book so reminds me of the classic Billy Joel song "Goodnight, My Angel" , perhaps it is the last line of the book "Goodbye, my angel" that does it. All adolescents should read this book and see how the decisions you make can affect those you do not know.

I bought a set of these for a small class of high school boys with grade-school reading levels. I was looking for a book with an "Outsiders" feel, about real high school life told from the point of view of teenagers. All of the boys were very reluctant to get started, just because it had page numbers and a cover. (I frequently hear "I don't read books.") All of them eventually realized it was interesting and within their abilities, and there was a lot of independent reading going on. I also offered this book to a girl in a college-prep English class who was looking for something to do in the last days of school. She finished it in a couple of days on her own time and also liked it. I recommend this book.
