This battery is recharged with the Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Battery Charger and is designed to power a variety of tools, such as the Hitachi WR18DL Cordless Impact Wrench, the Hitachi WH18DL Cordless Impact Driver, and other compatible Hitachi tools. It is important to fully charge your battery before attempting to use it in your power tools. To charge your EBM1830 battery properly, position the battery so that the nameplate faces towards the nameplate of the charger and press the battery into place until comes into full contact with the bottom of plate. Inserting the battery turns the charger on, and the pilot lamp should light up. If the pilot lamp does not light up, pull out the power cord from the base and check the battery mounting condition. Once your battery is fully charged, the pilot lamp will slowly blink red and you're battery will be ready to use. In general, the UC18YRL should charge your battery in approximately 45 minutes. Although the variation is minor, ambient temperature above or below room temperature may effect recharging time.
Recharging New Batteries: What to Expect
The internal chemical substance of your new batteries is not activated, thus the electric discharge might be low when using them the first or second time. This is a temporary phenomenon and is not cause for alarm. The normal time required for recharging will be restored by recharging the battery 2-3 times.
How to Make Your Battery Perform Longer
The best way to maximize the life of your battery, is to follow two easy steps. First of all, remember to recharge your battery before it becomes completely exhausted. When you feel that the power of the tool becomes weaker, stop using the tool and recharge the battery. If you continue to use the tool and exhaust the electric current, the battery may be damaged and its life will become shorter. Secondly, you should always avoid recharging your batteries at high temperatures. A rechargeable battery will be hot immediately after use. If a battery is recharged while it's still hot, its internal chemical substance will deteriorate, and the battery life will be shortened.

Best Rechargeable batteries I've ever used,

I've had lots of tools, gadgets, etc. over the years with nickel cadmium, nickel hydride, lithium, etc. Most of these worked OK but fell short in some way, usually in useable time per charge. The Hitachi Lithiums are great.. they have lots of power and are very long lasting.
Also, the (separate)charger is a nice unit with status lights, a cooling fan, and over-charge protection. You won't kill a battery by leaving it in too long. I originally got this type battery with a Hitachi drill.. liked it so much I bought more tools of the same brand and have been pleased. One thing though.. at a hundred bucks a pop they're quite expensive. I bought a few more here at Amazon for half that.. haven't seen them on sale in a while but maybe if you keep checking..

This is a sweet battery. It is lightweight, it lasts long, and it has plenty of power. Just like they say, it goes from full power to dead right away, so you don't waste time with a tool at half power. I use the hammer drill and the impact driver all the time, and I purchased a third battery so I could keep both machines running all the time and have one battery charging, or use it in the reciprocating saw.
The one improvement they could have made was to add a power indicator like the milwaukee. However, if you use it all the time, you know how much juice the battery has left.

Light weight power supply. Downside was having to buy a new charger, that wasn't too expensive. Upside is it's lightweight, works pretty well, and doesn't lose it's charge on the shelf like MiH's.
