The Virtual HD functionality upconverts conventional NTSC sources to HD specifications and smoothly corrects for motion artifacts that may have been introduced into the original film or video sources. It has a 4:3 aspect ratio as well as a 16:9 mode for displaying HDTV broadcasts.
In addition to controlling all the functions on the 43FDX20B projection TV, the remote control is designed to operate different types of VCRs, CBL (cable TV) converters, satellite receiver, DVD players, and other audio/video equipment with one touch.
It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner; you'll need a separate HTDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts. The 43FDX20B incorporates dual-tuner picture-in-picture technology, which allows you to view antenna inputs on both the main picture and subpicture simultaneously, with separate tuning control for each.
This set features front A/V and S-VHS input jacks for connecting a game console, VCR, or S-VHS camcorder. The rear features 2 S-video inputs, 2 composite A/V inputs, 2 component-video inputs, 2 RF inputs, 1 audio output, and S-video and A/V monitor outputs.
Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.
Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

I bought this TV from Circuit City, after debating what brand should I get. Actually, Sony, Panasonic, and Hitachi were my best choices, but after seeing the picture on this set, nothing could tell best than your own eyes. I was amazed how deep were the colors, brigh was the picture and most importantly how fast do they service you, and over all 10/10. Plus it's a great value for such a beatifull set. My recomandation; BUY IT !!!!!

If you want to throw away a lot of money, this is the TV for you! You could just mail your money to me as it would be a better use of it, but I doubt you want to do that. I fell victim to a Hitachi projection TV. It is a little over two years old and is ready for the landfill. Don't believe me? Search Hitachi projection television and see for yourself. They are great televisions when new, but once they hit the two year mark you should start looking for a new TV!

Good Use Of Money,
By Hoot Gibson "Hoot" (Columbia, MO.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hitachi 43FDX20B 43-Inch Projection HD-Ready Monitor/TV (Electronics)
I bought this TV 6 years ago, 2002, and have not had a problem with it. The color and sound has been great, I purchased a screen protector for it, and that has been the only money I have spent on it. I'm looking to sell it, as me and my wife are down sizing, moving from a house to a Condo. The cost of the TV was 2,000.00 looking for a reasonable price to sell it for. The new TV I purchase will be another Hitachi.
