Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Hitachi's 10-inch compound miter saw is an accurate saw with a solid table and fence system that produces good results. The powerful 15 amp motor with an electric brake matches the saw's sturdy construction. The fence easily adjusts to square with the included wrench. However, at only 2 inches high at its tallest point and only about an inch high for most of its length, it isn't the best saw for cutting crown molding or tall stock. There are miter detents at 31.6, 45, 22-1/2, and 15 degrees on both sides, with a maximum miter of 45 degrees to the left and a full 60 degrees to the right. We found that the table holds its position tightly between detents, but the lever to lift the peg out of the detent slots seems a bit weak and unwieldy. The miter gauge is riveted on, but the numbers and markings are not in relief, so it may need replacing in time as the paint wears off, although the riveted connection will make that replacement a tougher job than it should be. This saw has a vertical handle, like all the Hitachi miter saws, rather than the horizontal configuration many people prefer. In all, this solid, reliable miter saw is designed and built tough enough to remain accurate under demanding job site conditions. It's a great choice for people who want professional-level quality but don't need to pay for the extra horizontal capacity of a sliding compound miter saw. --Brian Trinen

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Saw, February 28, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hitachi C10FC2 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
I looked at just about everthing, DeWalt , Delta, Makita and for a 10" saw this one had the best features. 60 Deg to the right is useful. The positive stops are right on and the lock is easy to use and sturdy. Some complain of the straight on handle , I don't. I'm right handed and to see the work the handle is in the perfect position for use. The saw arrived ready to use out of the box. I checked blade runout and perpendicularity and it was right on. I use this saw for trim work. Therefore I changed the supplied 24 tooth saw to an 80 tooth saw blade with perfect results. For rough carpentry the 24 tooth is fine. If you need larger capacity then I would go with the 12" saw for rough work and a 10' slider for fine work. Those fine tooth 12" blades are way to much $$.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Saw, February 2, 2000

This review is from: Hitachi C10FC2 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
My wife actually purchased this saw as a Christmas present(with a little prodding). This saw took 5 minutes to setup, and I was mitering wood just like that. This saw cuts through wood like butter, I have cut wood as large as 2x4's, and as hard as oak and maple. It always delivers a smooth cut, and the 60 degree cut on right has already come in handy on numerous occasions. The handle/safety button angle/placement is a little uncomfortable until you get used to it. A great value for the dollar.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all I ever wanted in a saw, September 23, 2000

This review is from: Hitachi C10FC2 10-Inch Compound Miter saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
This saw did everything I needed it to do. I had been on the fence about whether to get a sliding or a non-sliding saw for a while, but after taling to a few "true" woodworkers, I decided on this saw. The "woodies" I talked to told me that the sliders are notoriously innacurate compared to the standard compound/miters. And they told me that if I was going to be serious enough to spend $, I should invest in a table saw. So I bought this saw, and I am totally happy with it. I would recommend getting a good quality blade, like a Forrest or a Freud. I've built a picnic table, some jewelry boxes, and done some molding with this saw. After blade replacement, all jobs went smooth. Great saw!

Do yourself a favor, and buy the optional fences sold below. Well worth the money.
