Perfect Saw,

I looked at just about everthing, DeWalt , Delta, Makita and for a 10" saw this one had the best features. 60 Deg to the right is useful. The positive stops are right on and the lock is easy to use and sturdy. Some complain of the straight on handle , I don't. I'm right handed and to see the work the handle is in the perfect position for use. The saw arrived ready to use out of the box. I checked blade runout and perpendicularity and it was right on. I use this saw for trim work. Therefore I changed the supplied 24 tooth saw to an 80 tooth saw blade with perfect results. For rough carpentry the 24 tooth is fine. If you need larger capacity then I would go with the 12" saw for rough work and a 10' slider for fine work. Those fine tooth 12" blades are way to much $$.

Great Saw,

My wife actually purchased this saw as a Christmas present(with a little prodding). This saw took 5 minutes to setup, and I was mitering wood just like that. This saw cuts through wood like butter, I have cut wood as large as 2x4's, and as hard as oak and maple. It always delivers a smooth cut, and the 60 degree cut on right has already come in handy on numerous occasions. The handle/safety button angle/placement is a little uncomfortable until you get used to it. A great value for the dollar.

It's all I ever wanted in a saw,

This saw did everything I needed it to do. I had been on the fence about whether to get a sliding or a non-sliding saw for a while, but after taling to a few "true" woodworkers, I decided on this saw. The "woodies" I talked to told me that the sliders are notoriously innacurate compared to the standard compound/miters. And they told me that if I was going to be serious enough to spend $, I should invest in a table saw. So I bought this saw, and I am totally happy with it. I would recommend getting a good quality blade, like a Forrest or a Freud. I've built a picnic table, some jewelry boxes, and done some molding with this saw. After blade replacement, all jobs went smooth. Great saw!Do yourself a favor, and buy the optional fences sold below. Well worth the money.

good bang for the buck,

The things that are important on this saw are great,degree/stops are right on , sturdy table, powerful and smooth motor. Ido have a few complaints; 1) No extension wings included... 2)Thin,brittle red plastic throat plate shattered after a few uses (withfactory blade). 3) they used an overly long and slender handle fortable adjustment- seems easy to bump and appears it would snap off ifyou bumped it hard.(Not what you would expect from a saw that isdesigned for transport to the job site). Overall I still think it's agreat saw , and for the price I'm willing to put up with a few minorshort comings.

Okay, but not a star,

I purchased this saw to replace a Benchtop brand that I had. The saw assembled easily and the powerful motor was impressive. I also liked the 60 degree miter to the right. I was disappointed with the poor vise clamp and no standard extension wings. The saw had too much plastic and felt a little cheap. My bottom line is this, Hitachi makes very good power tools but this is not one of their best. It is okay but no better than my Benchtop especially when you consider that you are paying twice the price for a similar tool, both made in Taiwan, with the cheaper one having more accessories and just as durable.. Well, that is my opinion. The saw is okay but not five star or american quality.

Good machine.,

I have been happy with this machine. It seems well-built and accurate. It's easy enough to adjust the head for the work. It's been doing good work for me on a bunch of fine, compound miter work. The single hold-down seems to work well, but I wish I had a second so I didn't need to keep moving it L-to-R.If you are doing any fine work, I'd suggest you replace the blade with something a little stiffer. The factory blade is very thin kerf. I think it'd be fine for framing, but not for the precise woodwork that I am doing with it. When I use the machine for rough carpentry, I'll swap the OEM blade back in. There is a little wobble in the head. Since this is my first power miter saw, I'm not sure if this is a typical problem or not. But careful usage seems to not cause a problem, that is, push down, not sideways. As appears with most machines, dust collection seems to be a problem, even with an attached shop-vac. It checked out square out of the box. Though there is a fence adjustment that doesn't seem to be covered at all in the instruction manual. This is more a curiousity than a problem, as it seems straight-forward should you ever need to re-zero it. If you are left-handed, I think you will find it a little awkward, as the trigger safety sets so it's under you thumb if you use your right hand. When I tried switch hitting for a cut on the right side of the table, I found it cumbersome. I've listed all the negatives, but in general, it seems a solid machine and would buy it again. I've had other Hitachi equipment for 17 years and it's worked well, they just don't advertise much, but make good stuff. It came recommended by a friend that evaluates tools for a profession.

It's a great saw. Took out of box and I could get it to work without even reading the instruction. The calibration was very accurate. I tried different miter angles and the bevel in 45 degrees. It was right on. The factory setting came with 90 degree and 45 degree bevel but you can adjust it to your need by playing with a little adjusting screw. The electric brake reduces the amount of noise dramatically. It actually does cut wood like a butter (affirming to the review by one of the above reviewers). Channging bevel angles also is very easy. Also the handle is designed in a way so that it is to carry for job site operations. I am not a pro but I can distinguish from a good machine to not so good one.

First Time Miter Saw Owner,

I have a friend who is a carpenter by trade. He took me through a tool store pointing out all the tools I should get for the shop I was setting up now that I have my first house. He suggested that I get a sliding miter saw but the price was a little steep. I decided to get a standard compound and since he spoke highly of Hitachi I was drawn to this saw due to it's relatively low price and quality build. Set up was minimal and I did a few practice cuts at different angles and then started working on the molding in my infant son's room. It's not easy to get a good joint but I can't blame the saw since our walls wave all over. My only real complaint is that when you tilt the blade off of vertical the motor cover interferes with the hold down clamp if you have it on the left side. I plan to get the optional wings since cutting the end of a 2x4 is a pain unless someone is holding the other end.
