I got this saw as a part of a kit, and felt obliged to post my review of the saw here because it has impressed me so much. My expectations were not all that high for this saw, and in fact, I didn't use it much for the first year that I had it. After only using it for light duty work for a long time, because I didn't think it would have the power for anything more, I decided to put it to the test. If it couldn't get the job done, I would be justified in buying the latest, greatest corded saw anyway.

I was building a cabinet out of 3/4" oak plywood, and had a bunch of cuts to make. Having to set and reset my guides over and over was getting to be a pain, so I doubled up the plywood to make the job go faster, and give the saw a real test. To my surprise, it didn't bog down at all through 1-1/2" of oak plywood. I'll use this much more often now that I know it can handle some tough cuts.

I couldn't be happier with my Hitachi cordless tools.

I bought this after reading a review of battery powered tools in Consumer Reports. This was the top rated 18v drill as well as the only circular saw that they recommended. I previously had a Skill brand circular saw and it did pretty well but this one is amazing. I recently had to replace the floor on a deck because of rotting. I used this saw all day on pressure treated 2X6 lumber. Not only did it cut like butter, but I had to rip a 16 ft piece at the end of the day and it performed well.
I had not used Hitachi because of the weird look previously but with Consumer Reports recommendation and my experience, I give it two thumbs up.

Oh yes, it works great if you are left handed as I am. It has a safety button that can be depressed using either hand.

After running the gamut of cordless tool usages for 30 years, I've Finally Arrived! I've used and owned 3.6, 7.2, 12, 14.4, 15.6, 18 and 19.2 Volts drills, but obtained a C 19.2V 5.5" cordless circular saw when getting into the 19.2V cordless system. It has been on the weak side and only fulfilled small, quick cutting needs. There always were power issues dealing with run times and battery storage of my NiMH batteries. I've been holding out and watching the new battery technologies develop, especially the Lithium-Ion systems. Consistent Torques, Long Lasting Shelf Life Power, Quick Charging, High Current Output, Longer Life Cycles and Lower Weight really makes the Li-Ions desirable, for Pros or the Homeowner. I decided to take the plunge and outfit my shop cordless tool selections with this new battery technology.

I researched all of the newest cordless Li-Ion products on the market and found the HITACHI 18V 3.0 Ah HXP tool systems to be unbeatable in most categories. They happen to cost less then most of the other professional brands of great cordless tools. With a prior purchase of a Hitachi 18V 2-piece Drill-Impact combo (has charger and 2-18V 3.0 Ah HXP batteries), I got the 6.5" bare-tool Hitachi Circular Saw here on Amazon for a Great Value.

I've not been disappointed! You can look up specs and read other reviews, but I can safely say that this Cordless Hitachi Circular Saw is SOLID in performance! . The Hitachi C18DL is the cordless circular saw I always needed! It has plenty of cutting power & depth and the light is helpful spotting the cut line. The HXP 3.0 Ah batteries allow about 15X the board cutting feet than I had before with my old 19.2V 5.5" NiMH cordless. This Hitachi 6.5" runs very efficiently and is a solid, well made saw that cuts straight and true.

First off, NO "bog down" when ripping 2 x 10 x 12's. I'm adding to the length of my deck and this baby has been used. I've made multiple rips on 2x10x12's and 6x6 treated posts AND using a drill concrete mixer attachment to mix concrete for footings ALL WITH ONE BATTERY (3 AMP HR LITHIUM-ION BATTERY THAT IS)!

A friend of mine that is a handyman by trade came by and was seriously impressed with how many rips we were making on the 2x10's when he was there. We cut (12) 2x10's with no problem. At first, when I told him about the Hitachi's ability to do all of this on one battery, he had that "yea right' look on his face. He's a corded guy.

The hitachi circular saw changed his mind! Now keep in mind, the blade is only 6.5. BUT, it cut through the 6x6 treated post easily (cut 4 pieces), then used a hand saw to cut through the middle (easy).

Don't know how it does with the 1.5 amp hr battery. Probably not as good. The charger takes about 45 minutes to recharge a battery right after it has been in use. I've got two and I've never run out of juice in the replacement while the other was charging. Haven't even worried about it...

This is my fifth tool from Hitachi's Li-On line of tools. I also own the reciprocating saw so I had some pre-conceived expectations of performance. This saw perfroms excellently for light duty cutting, but if you need to do some heavy duty plywood ripping you might want to pick up a corded model.

Pros:
Lite Weight
Includes Rip Fence
Has a built in light
Comfortable Grip

Cons:
For the price of the battery and tool you can get a reliable corded model
The battery suck down is huge when you need heavy duty performance
There should be markings on the back for height adjustment
