From the Manufacturer

The Hitachi CJ90VST 5.5-Amp Top-Handle Variable Speed Jig Saw is a solid tool at an excellent value making it a must-have for contractors, carpenters, metal fabricators, siding installers, and do-it-yourselfers. The CJ90VST features a 5.5-amp motor that generates a variable speed of 850 to 3,000-strokes per minute. The electronic speed control maintains speed for smooth, accurate cuts. The lock-on, variable-speed triggers lets you control the speed and keep it set without having to squeeze the trigger. The 4-mode orbital action allows you to increase cutting efficiency through various materials. The saw CJ90VST has a woodcutting capacity of 3-1/2-inches, steel-cutting capacity of 5/16-inches and cuts through just about any common building material. The cast aluminum nickel-plated base offers solid support and resists scratching the work surface. A D-shaped handle conforms to your grip and provides a comfortable hold in a variety of positions. The handle is also covered with soft Elastomer to absorb vibration, prevents slippage and increases you cutting control. A tool-less blade change system allows for quick and easy changes and the powerful dust blower pushes sawdust and chips away from your cutting path for a clean, easily visible work surface. Weighing just 4.9-pounds, the CJ90VST is the lightest jig saw in its class. A 4mm hex bar wrench, jig saw blades and saw case are also included with this tool. The Hitachi CJ90VST 5.5-Amp Top-Handle Variable Speed Jig Saw comes with a 5-year warranty. This saw was the Top Value in our test of 10 corded jigsaws in the October 2014 issue of WOOD. Sporting a very strong blower, this saw enabled us to easily see marked layout lines. It has a very comfortable grip, and has the variable-speed dial on its front for easy access and visibility. It lacks a variable-control trigger, but it is soft-starting. You don’t get a plastic no-mar pad for the metal shoe, and its blade clamp proved the most difficult to operate. Blade deflection of nearly 1/16" in 3/4" stock can be troublesome if you don't allow for it.

Purchased this saw based on reviews on big-box store website. This is a very solid, powerful mid-range jigsaw. Not sure why some folks complain about blade-change. I've found the release lever very easy to operate; blades slide in and out with ease. Comfortable grip. My complaint is that the base plate is a bit of a pain to adjust. If you've got the extra cash to spend on the next up in line, go for it. But this is a pretty good tool.

Although I don't use a jigsaw much for woodworking very often I feel it's a good tool to have around. Of course during my latest project my 10 yr old jigsaw suffered a broken base that couldn't be repaired. So I purchased the Hitachi from a big box store based on reviews from the store's website.
The features seemed decent for the money so I brought it home and plugged it in. I cycled through all of the settings to make sure it was working. The motor felt powerful enough and everything cycled smoothly. The saw also felt pretty good in the hand and the base was flat and seemed sturdy. I put the saw back in the box satisfied that it was working. Two days later I actually went to use the saw and that's when the trouble started.
The "keyless" blade chuck is lever operated. The lever was very tight, I couldn't get it back far enough to get a blade in. I noticed the allen bolt holding the lever seemed a little off so I backed it out a hair and immediately the spring popped out of the lever. Ironically this caused the blade to set and I couldn't remove it. I went back on to the big box web site and checked out more reviews. Many customers complained that the blades were very difficult to change(a few even stated that it usually took several minutes to change out a blade) yet they continued to give the saw very good ratings. Several minutes to change out a blade is ridiculous for any jigsaw but for a keyless saw it's completely unacceptable. A blade change operation should take less than 20 seconds for the most part. It's a shame because the saw's motor seemed to be of good power. But if you have to struggle to get a blade in and out of the saw that saw is worthless..

PS
Purchased a Bosch jigsaw for about $20.00 more, worked great.

Finally upgraded from the jig saw that I've had for about 20 years. I cannot believe I waited this long. This tool is amazingly fast and so easy to use. A fantastic buy. would recommend to anyone. I asked a carpenter friend to recomend a couple of saws that I wanted to replace and Hitachi was the brand he recommended to me. Thanks
