Hitachi D13VF 9-Amp Reversible Drill with Case, Chuck Key and Side Handle

Amazon.com

The Hitachi 1/2-Inch Drill comes with a 9 Amp high-performance motor to provide plenty of power at all drilling speeds. This drill features an ergonomic form-fit palm grip handle that increases comfort and control while reducing fatigue-causing vibration. This drill combines high speed with optimal torque -- with a maximum no-load speed of 850 RPM and a maximum torque of 416-3/5 inch-pounds -- making it ideal for all your high torque jobs. It has a 2-1/8-inch wood capacity and a 1/2-inch steel capacity. The drill's design is lightweight (weighing only 4-3/5 pounds) and highly durable, with contractor-grade cast-aluminum gear housing, the double gear reduction provides higher torque while reducing gear strain.

The electronic variable speed control trigger is easily operated with just two fingers and includes a convenient lock-on feature for comfortable continuous operation. The drill also comes with an easy-to-use reversing switch. This drill includes a removable side handle for increased operability and control, an industrial 1/2-inch chuck, and a chuck key. The drill has a built-in belt hook for convenience, and when you're ready to pack up the drill comes with a durable injection-molded plastic carrying case. An optional angle attachment can be used with this drill to help reach difficult angles and tight corners. This product is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

I have a ton of drills, a bosch sds hammer drill, a 10amp dewalt, 7amp dewalt, a couple ridged 9amp spade drills, a milwaukee screw gun, a makita 4amp angle drill, 18v milwaukee hammer drill and ratcheting drill, all of which are 5 star drills, and then I have some old beaters I like to throw around.

The 10amp dewalt is most comparable to this Hitachi DEWALT DWD210G 10-Amp 1/2-Inch Pistol-Grip Drill. The Dewalt is heavier, and has an overload protect feature which shuts it off if it gets too hot.

This 9amp hitachi is the only coorded drill I have found that has an electric brake, or any brake for that matter, which is completely awesome and something I've been looking for, for awhile. For the life of me I can't think why dewalts 7amp pistol grip drill doesn't have any kind of break, people are obviously getting a drill that size as a general purpose drill that will include some fastening.

The electric brake on the hitachi, works like many 18v coorded drills clutch break, that stops the drill from spinning when you take your finger off. This makes it a viable coorded drill for fastening and screwing. And because this is a powerful 9amp drill, having a break on it to me is an impressive feature that sets this drill apart. And this drill, unlike the 10amp dewalt, is light enough to be held with one hand for short periods of time. The hitachi does come with a side handle, and you would need it if you were doing a lot of fastening. I would not hang drywall with this, it's much too heavy for that.

This is the best drill I've ever owned. Period. End of story. I'm 65 and have been using drills for many years. Many different types and brands. This Hitachi is excellent. A small con is that it is a bit heavy. But that's because of the QUALITY of the motor.

Most drills spin down when one releases the trigger. This drill has a built-in brake and it stops quickly which is a big plus. The Forward/Reverse lever is in the correct place and works excellently while some other drills have some placement problems.

The chuck on this drill is also heavy-duty and holds bits very well. I also like the case it comes with. Very helpful and easy to carry around. I quit using cordless drills a few years ago as they just don't seem to hold up. Battery life is short and torque varies depending on battery charge. This is a corded drill and they have put an 8' cord on it which is wonderful.

All in all I personally highly recommend this drill to anybody who is a serious craftsman, a DIYer at home, or a contractor. Great drill... great price and Amazon provided free and fast shipping.

This is an extremely well built and durable drill, suitable for contractor use. The electric brake on this model is one of the best I have ever used. The overall fit and finish is excellent, and the balance is perfect. The drill comes with a hardshell carrying case that keeps everything together. The ambdextrous screw-on handle is very comfortable.

I bought this recently from Lowes for $89. Now that I have used it for stirring 10 5 gallon buckets of stucco, I'd pay $130 for it. This thing got so hot mixing such thick cement the first time or two that white hot smoke rolled out of it and the smell of burning wiring made my wallet start to ache. I didn't care I had to get that stucco up. I thought for sure I was killing it with such a hard job. By the end of my tenth bucket it only smoked a little if I kept mixing past 6 minutes or so. To my suprise, after using that thing like I stole it, it doesn't even seem close to dying. One tough drill. I don't just like it. I admire it.

Got this a while back as soon as I saw it, I dunno 8 months ago. Runs great, it has tremendous torque, had no mechanical issues with it. I bought it for one reason: 1/2" with electric brake and low top speed. We use it exclusively for driving large numbers of very large screws/bolts so its perfect. Also works great on steel. But its low speed so its not good for mixing, wire brushing, sanding, or drilling lots of holes in wood. The dewalt dwd210 is good for that stuff btw.

Unfortunately this drill has some tragic design flaws:
1. it is very heavy and front heavy and torquey so MUST use assist handle, which isnt so bad except...
2. the assist handle has only two positions, left and right side. absence of a top position severely limits how much you can "lean on" the screw head. A real omission.
3. If I use it left handed I constantly hit the reverse button it is annoying and dangerous. Hey hitachi I know most people are RH but a lot of times you have to use your left hand to reach into areas you know.

Not a bad value at current pricing.

5 stars for a 1/2 high torque drill with brake
2 stars for serious design flaws
4 stars on value
avg 4 stars.

My wife bought me this drill for my birthday and I've been very impressed with it. I've used it to drill large diameter holes and have also used it as a screw gun, it works extremely well in both areas. Everything on the drill seems well made, no small parts to break off. I especially like the 2 fingered trigger and egronomic grip for applying pressure to the bit.
I don't see how anyone could be disppointed with this tool.
