All the cordless drill a non-pro will need,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hitachi DS14DVF 14.4 Volt 3/8-Inch Cordless Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
For 5 years I owned a dewalt 12volt. Great drill, but fifty dollars for one new battery. one hundred and forty to one hundred and sixty dollars new. the hitachi is more compact, better weighted, better balanced, easier to remove batteries, a quicker charger, easier to change from fwd to rev., and easier to change speeds. this drill is a sleeper. at nintey-nine dollars it's a great deal. AT seventy-nine dollars(at Lowes) it's a steal........Find me a better drill for the money. I almostforgot. it's built like a tank, and so is the real beefy pro charger. Dave, Boston Ma.

A Great Tool Combination!,

My girlfriend talked me into buying this drill/combo at Lowes, and I must say I've used it to my heart's content over the past month! Absolutely plenty of torque, easy to use, and the addition of a flashlight... well, it's come in handy for several jobs. Can't say enough good things about this combination cordless tool.

For the money, it's a great deal,

Bought this drill to replace my old DeWalt 12 volt cordless, and have already done two projects with it and have been very impressed. Granted, I'm going up in voltage but I'm able to drive 1 1/4" and 1 5/8" screws into pine and oak with a lot less effort than my old trusty 12 volt. The drill size is a little more compact than what I'm used to using but I got used to it very quickly and it's actually a plus when you're up on a ladder or want to minimize tool weight. It has average charge life, but the charger included recharges the batteries in about an hour so you won't be caught short with the extra battery included. A contractor friend of mine has a Hitachi reciprocating saw that he raves about, and I'm starting to see why. They make a good product for the money and the flashlight that's included is a bonus for this tool. I'd pay the full freight for the drill alone.

When I first saw this set I was impressed with how much there was for the price and the apparent high quality. But I decided to wait a while before writing the review to see how it performed in service. I recently completed most of the work on a 650-sq-ft addition to the house. The Hitachi started by drilling holes in the pad and setting concrete anchor screws through the sill plate and finished by driving hundreds of drywall screws. I even dropped it once onto concrete with no apparent damage. I now have very high confidence that this will be a long-lived tool as well as a good-looking and pleasant to use one. Highly recommended. (The work light is nice too.)

Best Cordless drill for its value and price!,

This review is from: Hitachi DS14DVF 14.4 Volt 3/8-Inch Cordless Drill (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you are looking for a medium size cordless drill, look no further. This is the best medium size cordless drill you can get on the market today. It fits perfectly in your hand but don't let its compact size fool you. It can handle light work as well as some heavy duty drilling. It comes with a case, two batteries, and a flash light too. For under a hundred bucks, you can't beat it.

For the dollars this is a great buy. Case, flashlight, 2 batteries and fast charger for not too much money. Don't forget it comes with a nice drill too. The controls are easy to reach and it is light weight and well balanced. ...

won't hold a charge,

I was looking for a value priced cordless drill to back up my aging Dewalt 14.4, and after some research I settled on the Hitachi. I must say I was disappointed with the power of this drill. It seems to loose it's charge quickly, and the chuck has problems holding bits. I wish I could get my money back. My advice to anyone looking for a cordless drill is spend more (Makita, Porter-Cable) and be satisfied.

Great balance. Positive gripping. Does a great all around job.22 adjustments--- who cares, I want a drill that I can count upon to get me through the 2x4's,deck boards etc.and not worry about tearing the head off of the screws or nuts.

I was so glad I had this drill during the hurricane season in Fall 2004. The first big test beyond small in house projects. We installed and uninstalled steel hurricane shutters twice and thank God we did, the hurricanes came right through my city. Light weight and well balanced in your hand, never needed recharging during the job (over two hours) and torque control. I had to use the flashlight when we lost power and I had two charged battery packs. Very useful in an emergency.
