I decided to take the plunge and go HD for Christmas. This Hitachi has a superb picture, easy to navigate menus, 4 HDMI jacks plus all the bells and whistles and under $600. I couldn't be more pleased and couldn't understand why anyone would pay upwards of $800 for a 42" LCD when this TV is available.

I bought this one simply because it can fit into 40" wide opening in my old wall center (this TV has really narrow bezel, which looks great).
Pros: - Plenty of inputs, you can connect anything to this TV, composite, S-video, component, PC, HDTV - Picture is very good with standard definition TV, excellent with HDTV programs and Blue-ray disks - looks nice, apparently low power use Cons: - There is a light you can see on the dark screen coming from bulbs located in upper left and right corner, visible only in a completely dark room. - Black level is not the best, but only comparing with more expensive TVs - There is a lip-sync delay when you connect HDMI video with analog audio or some combination like that, but it should be possible to fix on most today's AV receivers. This is not a problem if you use HDMI only. Overall, good inexpensive TV from a reliable vendor.
