This gun is awesome. It's fast, lightweight, and the bump mode let's you move right along without having to wait. The gun also responds well to the pressure regulator, no need for a depth gauge here. If you're concerned more about safety and want sequential fire this has that option w/turn of a ring. If I need another nail gun, this will be it.

I find this a great product, I have used two other types of air nailers in the past and they were okay however of all the construction sites I've been on I mostly see these Hitachi Air Nailers in use that is why I bought this one.

I love this gun. I used to build houses as a part time job and this was the only gun the crew ever used. Over eight years, I never saw one break (a couple of jambs here or there, but those are easily fixable.) We dropped this things from high up, used them instead of a sledge to hammer walls, etc. -- they took a beating day in day out and never failed. I am happy to say that I am now the proud owner of my own Hitachi nail gun and it is living up to all my expectations. I would never get a different gun. To me, it is worth paying a few extra dollars if you have to to get this over a Pasload or a Bostich for a proven framing gun.

I purchased the depth adjustable version, NR83A2(Y) in August 2012, sold directly by Amazon. I can not write / modify my original review due to a safety recall of the adjustable depth version by Hitachi. I received my notice of the recall / problem with the nailer yesterday, 06/19/2014. I will be sending the tool to Hitachi for whatever needs to be done to the tool once I get the mailing instructions. I am not a professional and used my NR83A2(Y) from time of purchase in Aug 2012 until about end of Nov 2013 on remodeling at my home. I had no problems with the nailing gun what so ever including the depth adjustment. Hitachi's announcement just indicates that 'the pneumatic nailer can jam and override the safety switch that permits only one nail to fire at a time." I needed the depth adjustment as I was nailing soft pine 'V" Grove siding with 2 inch and 2.5 inch galvanized nails that need to be set into the wood sufficient for puttying. I did purchase from a Hitachi supplier a rubber tip for this nailer to prevent marring the wood. As a non-professional I purchased three Hitachi nailing guns from Amazon in 2012 and I personally think they are great tools. I made my selection for Hitachi after talking to a few finish carpenters and 2 or 3 cabinet shops that use Hitachi guns. I think I made the right choice in the tool and I am confident Hitachi will fix the problem on their depth adjustable framing guns. Only the NR83A2(Y) mfg between May 2012 - May 2013, and the NR83A3 mfg between June 2013 - March 2014 are affected by this safety recall. None of the non-adjustable depth nailing guns are affected. If the depth adjustment feature is not needed I think you would be very satisfied with Hitachi's none-adjustable models.

This is my first (personally owned) framing nailer. I've used senco's and porter cable's in the past, but liked the all metal construction of the hitachi. This brand and model was recommended by other framers that have been using them for years. It is basically the standard at the job sites I've been working at. Basically a no BS, no gimmicks tool that performs well.

I would have liked the adjustable drive version, but at $200 the non-adjustable is well worth it.

pros: good cost, all metal construction (steel), very durably built, toe-nails easily, fits between studs at a small angle

cons: no rafter hook, 3/8" fitting requires a step down to 1/4" fittings (fittings not included), everyone wants to borrow it!
