Hitachi RP30SA 7-1/2 Gallon Stainless Steel Industrial Shop Vacuum

I bought this vacuum about 2 months ago and have used from everything from vacuuming up my woodworking shop, drywall dust, the car, you name it. I think its the best vacuum I have ever owned and here is why: 1. Very portable. Light and moves well on its wheels. A long cord. 2. A lot of suction although through a 2" hose it will only clog on hunks that are clearly too big. Sucks up nails, stone, bolts, etc. no problem. 3. Very quiet. Enough said. 4. Nice quality throught. Stainless drum and high quality parts. 5. Does not tip over easily. 6. Good storage for hose and parts. The suction attachments are very good. 7. Very easy to clean. 1 minute to pop arart empty the drum and reassemble. 8. Very good filter. I dont think anything makes it back out in to the exhaust stream.

A little pricy but you will agree its agreat vacuum and looks like it will last years.

Never has the phrase: "You get what you pay for." been so true. This is one heavy-duty vacuum. Keep in mind, I'm comparing this to my two year old Craftsman 2 gal shop vac. In comparison, it's less than half the noise, has probably 40% more suction power, a locking hose, and top-quality attachments. You can do your vacuuming and pull this around by its hose and it follows you easily. The hose is a nice 8 ft. deal. It comes with two stiff extension wands, a handle with pressure release, wet and dry filters, two floor attachments: one with a squeegee for wet cleanup, and one with perimeter brushes for dust and stuff. The pressure release on the handle is for cutting down some of the suction. There *are* times when you want to less suction, like when vacuuming around lightweight objects that you don't want sucked up or ruined. It also includes a rubber adapter so that it will fit standard [local store] shop vac accessories. This vacuum doesn't include stuff that is standard on other shop vacs, stuff that will let you clean your car,..., there's not point in complaining about it. Hitachi leaves you the decision of whether to spring for the top quality Hitachi attachments or bottom quality shop vac attachments. If you already have Hitachi portable hand tools, this is the vacuum to get. Hitachi offers attachments specific to their tools, like hammer drill attachments to suck up concrete dust as you make it. A regular shop vac will deafen you in short order, this one is quieter than your household floor vacuum. That doesn't sound like much, but when you're already used to a noisy one, it's a big deal.
If you're looking for a top-quality shop vac for a reasonable price, this is the way to go.

I opted for this one over the Fein because the hose size can be matched to standard attachments, the construction looked sturdier, it's almost as quiet, and it came with some basic accessories. I wouldn't get a different model if I had it to do over again. FWIW, I'm a woodworker, and I use this to clean up and as a portable, dust collector and general shop vac.

Long-term addition: I've had this vacuum for at least 3 years now, and it is as good as the day I bought it. Hitachi surely knows how to put out a high-quality industrial strength product at a fair price. One thing I didn't expect was for this to work so well cleaning up a car! It is SOOOOO nice to have such a good shop vac for that nasty job. Tell this to your wife if she's not liking the idea of you spending this much on a shop vac. This has been one of the best tools I've ever bought.

Unit operates just great. Its Quiet, very quiet. Rolls well and sucks up anything and everything. On the other hand,
it came with only two end-attachments suitable for floors and rugs, etc. I miss the small round bristle brush, the crevice piece and the upholstery piece. I cant do the inside of cars with what it has packed with it. Surprised and somewhat let down for the price paid. There is no clear cut order form or whom to contact for parts. The hose does not rotate in its locking collar so it is prone to kink and must be unwound before putting an attachment on it..... a decided disadvantage.
So c'mon Hitachi, get on the stick...............

Easy to use, quiet, and does it's job without complaining. It is hard to get accesories for it from amazon.

This is a great vaccuum for low noise and great suction. It's casters are much better than others, and is quality built.
The 10' hose is very flexible and is nice to work with.
It's true that you don't get the crevice tool, little brush, and uphostery nozzle. This can't be found at amazon at this time, but can be ordered easily at toolpartsdirect.com or other part centers. You can use the parts # that come in the owners manual, the total for the three items where very reasonable. For the price they should of come with it but this vaccuum is a commercial grade and they have lots of accessories for tool dust control. They probably had to draw the line some where. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted this type of quality. Hope this is helpful.

The Hitachi RP30SA is a great vacuum. With everyday use they seem to last over 7 years. This new one replaces an older one. It really picks up the dirt and the filters do a great job of containing the dust and keeping it in the vacuum. I like the fact that there are no filters to purchase. It's a terrific buy.

I've owned this model of several years. It is the work horse of my shop and home. It works. But so do lots of other shop vacs. Why I like this one so much is that it is QUITE--ok, quite relative to other shop vacs isn't that impressive. But it is quiter than my upright home vac; and that does impress me. The home vac has been relegated to 'carpets only'; for everything else, I use my Hitachi. Oh, and it is cute. kids (of all ages) who have see Star Wars, immediately call it R2D2.

if all you have ever used are "shop vacs" from sears or the big box stores, your in for a treat with this machine...a quality unit!!!

...sucks - quietly!!
After a few years of having to wear hearing protection just to do clean-up work, I can now almost carry on a conversation while vacuuming. I truly think this beast is quieter than our "home" unit (A Hoover I think) - I will put it to a big test this weekend as I prepare to hook it up to my finish sander (REALLY small particles) and do the final sanding on 180 feet of cedar.
Overall - very satisfied.

According to the book that came with it it only has 78" sp. The hose is very flexible and the acc. seem to be very good also. The rubber coupling will let it hook directly up to some of my power tools already
