5.0 out of 5 stars Great disk, worth the upgrade
It is hard to find 7200 rpm IDE 2.5 drives. I used this to upgrade my parents HP Pavilion dv8000, which had a 4200rpm drive. Clearly this made a marked improvement over the old one. Seller was prompt and drive worked as advertised.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sent the wrong drive
I ordered this drive and when it arrived it was an SATA drive. The item is still advertised as as an ATA-6.

I replaced a Toshiba 16MB buffer 40GB harddrive with this one. This is the best product out there when compared with Seagate, Western Digital, Fujitsu or Toshiba.

- best 7200 rpm drive
- faster seek times and less latency
- installing is a snap
- comparitively less louder
- loads Photoshop much faster... and boots my laptop faster as well
- I was worried about more power consumption and heat due to higer RPM of this drive, but haven't noticed any of that.

All in all, you could buy a Fujitsu (noisy, slower) for $90+ taxes but this is definitely worth it for the extra bucks.

Purchased this drive to replace old slower/smaller hdd in laptop. Boot up is faster as well as loading apps, games. No issues with compatibility - worked first time right out of the box.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great drive, December 22, 2010

I own two of them and have them installed in two old laptops (Pentiun 4 2.8 Ghz, and an AMD 64 [Turion?]). Other than small size they work great and really sped up these old workhorses. They are both faster than the year old $6K Panasonic Toughbook I use at work. Just wish they were bigger, the only PATA hard drives I was finding that were larger were 5400 rpm instead of the 7200 rpm of these hard dirves. I highly recommend them for older laptops which have 4200 or 5400 rpm hard drives!!!! You will love the speed difference!!!!

I hava an HP Pavilion 6000 series laptop. Though it won't set any speed records in comparison with other laptops offered today, I knew it could be made usable with a decent drive, as the lag times were always hard drive related. The factory installed Fujitsu is 80GB worth of S-L-O-W... it spins at 4200 RPM.

I knew the laptop would be much faster with a faster drive, and having a bit of extra space wouldn't be so bad either. So I found and ordered the Hitachi travelstar 7K100, cloned my factory drive to it using an external USB ATA drive controller, replaced the internal, and it booted right up. I immediately noticed the increase in speed. The system performs almost twice as fast as it did with the old drive. I'll save the old drive as a backup, but the hitachi helps speed things up more than any thing I've done to this laptop, including going from 1 to 2 GB of RAM.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trust--but verify, May 27, 2010
This review is from: Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 HTS721010G9AT00 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive ( 0A25015 ) (Personal Computers)
These are the finest performing notebook drives in the PATA series. They have been so reliable that I got a bit lax about backing up. And after four years of great service, the hard disk died. I lost a lot of work. That little Dell X300 (Samsung Q20) notebook I like best had been everywhere and had been treated every way. And the drive held together. I have nothing but raves for the drives made in Hungary. After IBM sold the line and Hitachi moved the production, maybe a few things changed. It was the Hitachi version that failed while the older ones in my backup and my daughter's laptop continue to deliver stellar performance. If, like me, you have an older machine that you want to keep using, the TravelStar isn't perfect--but it's as close as I've seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rehabilitated my HP Zd8000 Laptop, January 7, 2010

I purchased this Hitachi drive to upgrade from the existing 100GB 5400RPM drive in my laptop. I also ordered the Apricorn EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL EZ Upgrade Universal Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade Kit, which you will need to make an exact duplicate of your old hard drive on to the new one. The upgrade went smooth and now the old hard drive serves as a clone back-up of the new one. This Hitachi runs pretty quiet and FAST. I love it. I installed it into my *2004 HP Pavilion ZD8000 Pentium IV 3.2GH w/2GB RAM running XP Pro srv pack 3* and the increase in speed is noticeable. Startup takes about the same amount of time (even after turning off non essential services), but all other processes go much faster. Programs open in a flash. My plan was to get another two years of top performance before purchasing a Windows 7 machine and this HD makes that happen for me. I'm in love with my laptop all over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Laptop Upgrade, November 6, 2009

This review is from: Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 HTS721010G9AT00 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive ( 0A25015 ) (Personal Computers)
I am upgrading my wife's Compaq v2000 laptop by replacing the memory and hard drive. I chose a 100 GB 7200 rpm drive to replace the 60GB 4200 rpm original HD. I purchased a refurbished (first time ever) Hitachi Travelstar from ESI World and it works perfectly. The UPC label was torn (as mentioned) other than that the drive appeared to be brand new. I am very satisfied with the performance and quietness of this drive.

I had never replaced the hard drive in a laptop before but the process went smoothly. I still had the restore CDs to load the operating system. With a new drive enclosure, I loaded the rest of the data and programs. It took a while but it was worth it. The drive upgrade plus additional memory has brought new life to her laptop.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best laptop IDE hard drive ever!, February 15, 2009
This review is from: Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 HTS721010G9AT00 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive ( 0A25015 ) (Personal Computers)
This hard drive is the best to upgrade an older IDE/PATA laptop. After an original 4200RPM hard drive (or even after 5400RPM) there is a HUGE difference in the speed.
I have upgraded hard drive to this model in my laptop and in my wife's laptop. Wow! We can work again!
It is silent, not overheating.
I'm totally happy with my Hitachi Travelstar® 7K100 hard drives!
