Great first driver,

Couldnt beleive the first time I picked it up. THought it was just a drill but then almost screwed an allen screw through a chair without realizing it. Backed it out and sat it back in with little pressure on the trigger. Today I used it to disassemble furniture with locktite on the screws. Not one stripped screw. Where I live it is very humid and the drill will rust by the next time I need it. If you usually use your drill as a high power screw driver - this is so much better, you are at a real disadvantage without this tool. I am in the furniture business, I build nothing, but I put together everything. If you dont have one of these, you are not in furniture busines, you are not a duct worker and you definitly have a screw lose! The nicad has been flawless, although I wish I bought the lithium ion, if you are not sure about this tool, you can get the nicad and save cash, I bet the screw gun is the same as the one with the better battery. The power is insane compared to a 40 volt drill.. I got the power! Good luck, J

We had purchased three reach-in closets and one huge walk-in closet worth of ELFA shelving material from the Container Store. On the first reach-in shelf, I messed up my shoulder trying to muscle 1 1/4" screws into the studs using a torque driver and worn out 10 others using a regular drill. Research on impact drivers led me to this professional tool for home use, it is pricey for what it does but a life time investment that might have just converted this reluctant DIYer into a believer. The first 10 screws had taken me 2 hours over four days with the limited space available inside the reach-in closet. The remaining 50 took 20 minutes with this thing, zero learning curve, very light for the power it puts out, charges quickly, fits into small places, not a single additional screw head worn out, it does rat-a-tat-a-tat but folks sleeping down the hallway did not even notice. It comes in a sturdy box and in my opinion the 14.4V model is more than plenty for putting together most if not all DIY projects. For that price, one would expect Hitachi to include the set of screw heads that retails seperately for $19. But it works with standard screw heads from other toolsets. Container Store would have charged me $900 for installing all those shelves, I did it for $150 and in the bargain ended up with a super little toy not to mention the added confidence to do more DIY projects!

Broke Mine,

Bought at A box store in late 07 ,used daily in harsh conditions seasonally . Broke the direction selector today while backing a zip screw in a very tight spot with no viz. This is a very agile low profile tool and the way i broke it would not be possible with too many other impacts it deserves a 5 star even if i am only on this page to look for a bare drive .just a good tool.

Excellent Impact Driver for the money,

This was my first impact driver. I saw it on closeout at a big box store for about $90. I checked the reviews and saw almost everyone likes it, so I bought it. I have just finished a bathroom remodel and used it to drive framing screws and backerboard screws. No issues at all. I will say that the batteries seem to require the Hitachi charger to reach full charge. When I tried them in my Dewalt Fast Charger, they don't get to full charge. That's odd since my Dewalt Fast Charger seemed to charge every other brand of batteries just fine. It means I have to carry two chargers with me to the work site, but that's not a big deal since the charger fits in the Hitachi tool case anyway.

Community Garden Builder,

I just bought this tool and have used it to put together over 30 (+5 lbs screws)raised beds for our community garden, along with several water stands and now a garden shed. I love this driver! The 30 minute quick charge is no joke. And with two batteries it never dies. I have used several Hitachi Tools over the years since they first started appearing on the market. I have always been surprised and more than satisfied with the power and control of Hitachi tools. This impact driver is no different.

Plenty O' Power,

I have no regrets here.I purchased this Hitachi roughly one year ago after seeing what my neighbors impact could do. He has a window/window installations company and uses a Makita (18v). Understandably he needs absolute power and reliabilty day in and day out, or he doesn't work. Well, I just had to get one as all gotta-have-it junkies do, but wasn't willing to pay the hefty price tag he paid for his Makita. So lots of research on Impacts that would get me through the daily projects my wife (boss) has lined up for me each weekend was a must. My decision was this Hitachi and I must say this Hitachi (14.4v) had kick to it. It rarely struggles through any project and has delivered power at bargain shopper prices. Since my purchase I've installed numerous windows, put metal plating 2mm thick on a wheel barrel with holes in it, built shelving in the garage, built a workbench for my garage, helped put up a wood fence, and also put up a childrens swingset, and all with no problem at all. I travel for a automotive company and have seen these wonder tools used on assembly line installing/removing bolts, and done with little issue to the end users. I would have to say, one word of caution, these things with some power behind them will take a head off a wood screw with little or no problem. Just be prepared to remove the headless screw from time to time.
