I've had the opportunity to try out a number of Impact drivers. I'm a General Contractor and have used this Hitachi for everything from drywall to Decks and everything in between. This gun outperforms most guns including obviously the Ryobi, Dewalt, and Rigid guns of the same type. I will be trying out a Milwaulkee and Makita next to see how they compare.
This gun is powerful, Holds a charge for quite a long time, and rarely lags. These types of guns are naturally loud so to expect a quite impact driver just doesn't make sense.
The gun stops suddenly when power runs out so don't be surprised when that happens, its time for a recharge.
If you want an 18 volt lithium gun worth the money, It's worth it!!!

I mount TVs frequently, and the rest of the time I am building shelving, stands, and drilling heatsinks.

Previously I used a harbor freight corded drill (read: cheap and I don't care if it breaks) since cordless drills couldn't keep up torque wise.

When rebuilding a stand for a fish store display out of 4x4 posts and 2x4s, they tossed me a Makita impact driver to tear out and drive new screws. It was a wake up call. While I had previous used an impact driver for mounting TVs, I never really thought about getting a powerful one for everything else. After driving 3 inch screws with no splitting or predilling, I was definitely sold.

I picked the Hitachi for the price point, brand, and warranty after looking at almost every other drill on Amazon and digging through review sites and forum posts. Everybody will say something is better than the other, so there's not much point in me trying to sell it on the merits of the brand.

I gotta say when I opened it and saw made in China I was a bit disappointed. I went Hitachi for a Japanese product. I'm assuming they design the motor in Japan and have it fabricated in China. Either way, a bit disappointing.

The case it comes in is actually fairly solid. It has clips for bits and a few compartments for accessories. SE 3 Pc. Power Extension Socket Bits for Drills fit in the clips and I highly recommend them for sockets. I got a DEWALT DW2055 6-Inch Magnetic Bit Tip Holder to hold bits and drive screws, and it works well also.

I've been using this tool for a year and a half now and have got to give props to Hitachi. I use this driver frequently. I'm not a professional contractor, but I do perform nearly all my own home improvements.

For the price, I think this driver is best all-around (I own a Dewalt 18v impact as well). The battery is 1.5 amp/hour, so when you're using the tool a lot the battery will need charged several times. That's why I would recommend working with two batteries (one in the charger, one in the drill). The batteries charge fast (about 30 minutes). I've never depleted a battery and not had the one in the charger not ready for use.

Power-wise, this impact driver can drive lag bolts to China. I'm satisfied with its power. The Dewalt and Milwaukee are rated at higher inch/lbs of torque, but you're also paying nearly double the cost of this impact driver for them.

I love the clip as so you can hang the driver on your front pants pocket. Who'd of thunk a simple metal clip would be so awesome.

The driver is balanced well and feels great in the hand. With the new Lithium-Ion battery it's freakishly light. Yes, you're sacrificing battery longevity with the 1.5 amp/hr battery, but you're gaining a huge savings in overall weight.

Awesome tool!

I typically do all my own maintenance whether it be on my vehicles or my house. I've had a dewalt cordless drill driver for years and was pretty happy with it except for the fact that it rips a phillips screw head apart if it hits resistance. It's a great drill but not so good at the driver part. I got this drill driver for Christmas over a year ago and now its my go to driver. Much better control which is much easier on the screw heads, very powerful and holds a charge for a long time. I think I've only charged the battery twice. Mind you I dont use it every day but thats the beauty of it. When I grab my old DeWalt driver, the battery is always on its last leg. So I typically grab the drill and set the other battery on the charger with hopes it'll be close to ready by the time the first one dies. (typically not the case, this is followed by waiting, having a beer, forgetting about the project, followed by an upset wife.). With the Hitachi, its ready to go and lasts the whole job. (A Happy wife doesnt get upset when you crack a beer after the job is finished.) I rebuilt a lawnmower engine with it. It broke free all the bolts and tightened them back up (mind you I used the driver to run them in and a torque wrench accordingly) and I know that battery is still good for more. When I do an oil change on the car, it removes the dozen screws that hold that crazy undercarriage panel on in no time. The weight is good, it feels solid without being heavy the trigger gives you good control of the bit speed and the light is bright enough to see what your turning. I love the light. Ever been under a bathroom vanity on your back and trying to line up a screw head with a flathead bit. Th light comes on without turning the bit, if you barely pull the trigger, a light squeeze and it'll turn slow enough to line them up perfect. Grab an impact driver bit and accessory kit, to use this tool to its fullest ability as no bits come with it. I'm happy with mine, and Highly recommend it.
