Hysterical Texas,
By spwagner@juno.com [Sandee Wagner] (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Hitch in Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
Although some of Jan Hudson's fans might be expecting more of a historical Texas romance, they couldn't expect more hysteria. The hero gasps and pants as he hauls the heroine up the grand staircase...what could be more realistic.I applaud Ms. Hudson for expanding the genre and making the plot more "real life" instead of romantically perfect. I truly enjoyed the pace of this book--which read more like a movie with quick scene changes--it is reminiscent of Tom Clancy's short chapter techniques. It keeps you guessing and engaged. It's a quick and enjoyable read. What's better for a summer afternoon?

A rollicking good time!,

Having the ability to create a story that has readers laughing out loud one minute and sighing with romantic longing the next is a rare talent indeed. Romance author Jan Hudson shares her wonderful gift at this exceptional type of writing in this wonderful book. I can say with certainty that I have never read a more exceptional book. This one was such a delight. The humor was subtle at times, and at other times downright rollicking. I just can't wait to see what Jan Hudson has up her sleeve for her next offering.

It's Jan's women who make the heroes look this delectable.,

Jan Hudson uses her unique talent to bring us an unforgettable story. In an interesting blend of 'The Wild Wild West' flavor and 'Agatha Christie' ensemble mystery ingredients, Jan cooks up a pot of historical stew for the palettes of her fans everywhere. Always a step ahead of the crowd, I marvel at the rare way Jan fills her stories with eccentrics and never before read plots.

An amusing comedy,

This is my first Jan Hudson and it ain't bad at all. The heroine is a delightful Pinkerton agent and the hero is clearly her match. Reading about them is a wonderful experience in laughter. However, I must say sexual tension is at a minimum. And the heroine's headstrong insistence at not falling in love gets irritating after a while. But the most irritating thing is reading about Beau's family, who were so wrapped up in maintaining a good image.

Jan Hudson is one of my favorites and she outdid herself on this one. Amanda is charming and refreshingly different, and Beau is a real hunk. If you like humor along with your romance, then A Hitch in Heaven is the book for you. Highly recommended!!!

Jan has once again managed to weave a cast of wonderful and quirky characters into a love story that will leave you laughing, crying, and most of all, wanting more. How can you not love a hero who proclaims that it "seemed like he'd stepped in every pile in the corral since Amanda arrived"? And kudos to Jan for creating a strong, working woman heroine with a soft side and a penchant for ice cream. For the record, Jan, I prefer vanilla too.

Jan Hudson is a favorite historical author and her latest, "A Hitch In Heaven," is wonderful. The characters were charming and the plot was fun, fun, fun. An excellent fast read. In fact, I just ordered another copy, so that I would have one to send to my sister for her birthday. I give it 5 stars. F.A. in Texas.

More Fizzle than Sizzle,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Hitch in Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
Poor Uncle Angus would be rolling in his grave-- if his corpse hadn't been snatched, the ransom bungled, the body retrieved, re-buried, then used as a rouse to lure Amanda back to Beau and his sweet, but oh-so-eccentric family. The sexual tension between Beau and Amanda is almost nil. Chuckles are few. And that trademark sizzle of Jan Hudson contemporaries is in need of a trip 'back to the future.' |
