Product Description

Converts Receiver into Concealed Vault

The durable, all-metal HitchSafe converts your receiver into a vault. The hitch pins are secured inside receiver via 2 sliding bars that can only be accessed with a 4-dial combination drawer that offers 10,000 different combinations. The HitchSafe can secure keys, license, cash and credit cards. It’s great for active lifestyles where need to be stored. The HitchSafe eliminates the hassle of carrying or losing keys/cards. The combination drawer is concealed/protected with an attractive dust cover.

Great for Outdoor Activities where Keys are a Hassle or can Become Lost

HitchSafe can store spare keys for quick and secure access. It can also be utilized for sharing access with friends/family or special situations such as outdoor sports where carrying keys can be problematic and credit cards/cash left inside vehicle would otherwise run risk of being stolen.

Secure, Concealed Key Storage that will Not Fall off like Magnetic Key Holders

Far superior solution to magnetic key holders that eventually fall off (they are never there when you need them!). If your magnetic key holder has not joined millions of them lying on roadside, you then have an open invitation for someone to steal your car because everyone knows where they are hidden. HitchSafe is contained within solid steel structure of hitch receiver via a combination where only you can access keys when needed.

How to Use

  • Pop off dust cover
  • Enter in four digit code
  • Release lever
  • Spring loaded drawer comes forward
  • Show friends your cool, new key safe

Inside the box

  • Vault that slides into receiver
  • 10,000 combination drawer
  • Dust cover
  • 2 Nickel Cadmium Bolts (interlock with sliding bars inside vault
  • 2 foam O-rings to seal bolts
  • 4 foam flange seals/spacers

I was very proud of this safe and I thought I loved it, UNTIL yesterday. The safe was easily compromised as a thief hammer wedged something right into it, obtaining my keys and unlocking my glove box where my wallet was. He then proceeded to go on a $600 shopping spree while I was enjoying my surf. Thank goodness he did not steal my truck.

Thieves around coastal areas (at least San Diego) are "ON TO" this locking method as I have seen other HitchSafes broken into. Mine was the latest victim. Surfers BEWARE...

Works well if you never need to remove to use your hitch very often. Water leaks into compartment, might rust over wet season. Extremely overpriced. Availability of replacement (and cost) of rubber cover unknown. When they tweak the design and lower the price to $29.99 it will sell like hotcakes.

I have had this product for about three years. It has worked well until now. Recently, This product is not water resistant so I recommend making it a habit to clean and wipe down the inside to prevent the formation of rust; especially during the wet season. The reason I gave it a one star is that it can be opened with brute force. I was backing into a parking space, and there was a log for a back stop. The bottom the Hitchsafe came in contact with the log while backing down and the front of the Hitchsafe came right off exposing the contents inside. My assumption is that a person with a sledge hammer or other force could break in quite easily. The metal is not steel or any hardened metal but looks like a cheap material. Never the less, I can't recommend this product or will buy again. Going to stick with AAA when the keys get locked in the truck.

As the tile states. The hole in which my pins install is too far back for this contraption to fit in. That was very annoying, the company needs to state (maybe they do and I did not read) how far the pin hole can sit from the opening. Make sure the (front of the) hole for the pins is less than 2&1/4" from the outside of the lip of your hitch opening, mine was about 2&1/2" which made this unit not fit. Any thing greater than 2&1/4 means it will not fit. The company should drill the back hole 3" and then also include a larger 1/2" spacer for these kinds of trucks. Sorry if there are typos, I am doing this review from my phone.

The hitchsafe quickly installed in the hitch, and the combination was quickly set. Keys fit in fine, but a credit card had to be bent a little to make it. After three weeks of driving through rain, the pins that fit into the receiver have started to rust. It works great for what I wanted - a secure place to put extra keys.

I have an OEM 2" hitch on my 2008 Toyota 4Runner. This item did not fit until I ground down the corners. It is VERY square, and the hitch receiver is more rounded on the corners. Posting this to let other owners know.

I purchased one of these in 2010. I think the last time I used it was a year ago. Today I locked my keys in the truck and really needed this. Popped the cover off to find it had corroded shut. All of the black had flaked off and it was covered in a white powder which I can only guess was salt. The opener would depress, but it would not come out of the hitch. My wife had to drive out with a hammer and vice grips to get it open and it was destroyed.

I am buying another one because no one has an alternative, but will check on this one often.

I did not purchase my Hitch Safe through Amazon as I do not believe they were available here at the time of my purchase. I would like to comment on the product being damaged over time by water entering the space between the unit itself and the drawer which is pulled out to retrieve your keys. I attempted to open my Hitch Safe today and was unable to get the drawer to eject when the combination was set and the drawer release lever was operated. A pair of pliers gripping the release lever removed the drawer where I discovered corrosion on the side and bottom of the drawer which caused it to bind up inside the unit. It appears that the two "weep holes" at the back of the unit allowed water to enter and caused the paint on the drawer to fail and become stuck in the unit. I do recommend the unit for security of spare keys but would suggest frequent removal of the unit from the vehicle to spray it with something to prevent water from damaging the protective paint coating. When I get it cleaned up I plan on repainting the drawer and sealing the weep holes with silicone to prevent this from happening again. Hitch Safe customer service is sending me new bolt pins to replace mine which were chrome and have rusted, unfortunately they do not warranty the unit from the damage that I have experienced
