Book Description

December 15, 1998
The Hitchhiker's Guide To Futures and The Laws Of Thought is a "how to" futures-market trading book which addresses the topics of higher mathematics-including Boolean Algebra-philosophy, religion and psychology. Text includes a biography of George Boole, the father of Boolean Algebra and binary logic. Author asserts Boolean ideas developed in the 19th century and actualized in the computer age will reach full fruition in the 21st century.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

This book offers a look into a real trader's mind. The ideas may at first seem to present a strange thought process. The payoff is a fresh, easy to read and profitable explanation of market behavior.

From the Author

The Hitchhiker's Guide To Futures and The Laws Of Thought is a traveling companion for an adventure into futures territory.

To the novice trader it offers reassurance that with initiative and a little cash, commodities can, indeed, be traded profitably.

Professional traders will find insights and innovative trading techniques-Stanton String and Boole Bites-that can help put them on the road toward long-term profitability.

For the non-trader this book presents, in plain English, an explanation of George Boole's Laws Of Thought, a.k.a. computer logic, not coincidentally the key to 21st century thinking.

The tone of the Hitchhiker's Guide is informal, not academic. The book's style is chatty. Consider it a conversation. You should dispute the text. Write in the margins. Play with the ideas.

Today there is misfit between what people profess to believe and how they live their lives, an incongruity that may, in part, explain the education crisis. Post-modern values are very different from the modern world's. The post-modern world is turning some values upside down. For example gold, a scarce commodity, has been displaced in value by sand (silicon) the second most common element (if stock market valuation is the scale or lifestyle enrichment the measure of value). Futures markets are in transition as well, to a post-modern pace and world expanse. Investing and speculating had been peripheral concerns to modern middle class life but are fast becoming water-cooler topic number one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and HIGHLY entertaining, April 29, 1999

This review is from: The Hitchhiker's Guide To Futures and The Laws Of Thought (Paperback)
I have to say that The Hitchhiker¹s Guide is fascinating. From the 'stage set up' of a very intellectual introduction, to the differing but complementary approaches of fundamental and technical analysis, random theory of markets, to discussions of the great mathematicians, philosopher's and thinker's, to the universality of Boole's laws of thought, I have found all of this very stimulating and informative. I believe this book will be seminal as the resource for clear thinking about the business of trading for years to come. There is much to be gained from reading and re-reading these various chapters. I say this because much of what¹s captured in words, sprinkling Boole's logic throughout, about the mind-set of a trader, his emotions, the fear of loss, having a trading plan with undying faith, all of this I have felt. What I hadn't realized is the way floor trader's and the losers (85% of traders) actually move markets. That was an 'aha' for me.
