2.0 out of 5 stars Hitler and Stalin: Roots of Evil January 4, 2011

I saw this program on the history Channel and loved it! I even taped it so I could use it as a resource to teach my high school history students. The VCR tape was starting to get old and the quality was deteriorating. I figured I would get it on DVD to replace it - boy was I wrong! This DVD has a dry, English accent narrator which was not on the American History Channel program. His voice is matter-of-fact, and not dramatic enough to keep you interested. After a while, it became like white noise, and all I was really watching was old black and white archival footage. It's amazing how the absence of a Hollywood voice has such an effect...I'm disappointed.

I got this DVD for my 9th grade world history class. Its not terrible, but it is a little dry for them. Someone who actually WANTS to watch and learn about history would enjoy it

1.0 out of 5 stars Cruddy! Just Cruddy! August 11, 2010
I find it hilarous that historians would even compare Stalin to Hitler! Its a waste of time, its fun to do, but it gets silly after a while.

First of all you can't measure evilness by how many people die, that doesn't mean a thing.

Second of all they put in some false information about Stalin beating his wife up, and it also forgot to tell us that she was mentally unstable herself.

Third of all, Stalin wasn't a genocidal manic like Hitler and he had Jews working for him. I'm not anti-symetic, that's just what I read.

Forth of all Hitler grew up speaking German, whereas Stalin grew up speaking Georigan and learned Russian in school. So how is Hitler going to have much of a disadvantage in Germany or Austria if he spoke German as a first language? He doesn't because unlike Stalin he was born in a country where he was allowed to speak his language without getting persecuted.

If you hate both of them and have to compare them, that's fine and all but look up various other sourses which tell it from their point of view, not just as a one-sided issue! It isn't going to kill you!
