An excellent trilogy at a great price,

This review is from: Hitman Trilogy (Includes Silent Assassins, Blood Money and Contracts) (Video Game)
The Hitman series is wonderfully composed in terms of gameplay, graphics, lasting appeal, and music. All three of these games play differently Silent Assassin being the longest, Contracts being the most confusing (in terms of story), and Blood Money being the most creative.
If you've never played the Hitman series before, you'll find all of this content fresh and new. Contracts is actually mostly a remake of the first game (not included in this Trilogy, there are actually 4 Hitman games). I suggest that you play them in the order of Silent Assassin, Contracts, then Blood Money. The reason being is that Blood Money is the most open-ended of the three, and features the most realistic AI that will not freak out as much as the earlier titles. Although the AI is different in the earlier titles, it doesn't necessarily mean they were worse, but I think you will find that Blood Money will be your favorite. Aside from the excellent gameplay, you will probably find the music very impressive. The music in these three games were composed by Jesper Kyd, with the help of the Budapest Symphony Orchestra in some of them. Silent Assassin features an overwhelmingly intimidating soundtrack akin to the Imperial March from Star Wars. Contracts features more electronic-style music (not techno), while Blood Money returns to a more orchestral style, featuring an excellent rendition of Ave Maria. Overall, the Hitman series turned out to be my favorite single-player shooter games. Blood Money is my personal favorite. You'll find that the game has a very high replay value, as you can achieve higher ratings based on your performance in the missions, and there are more and more ways to complete the missions, especially in Blood Money.

I did not buy the Hitman Trilogy, but I have played every single game in the series and I must say that eidosinteractive did a fantastc job with Hitman. Just recently, I decided to re-download Hitman Codename 47 and Hitman 2 Silent Assassin to add to the other two titles I have (Contracts and Bloodmoney) From the previous comments, it appears that there seems to be some sort of incompatibility issue with Vista Operatig systems. The easiest way to solve that problem is to go to the hitman2silentassassin set up icon/shortcut, right click on it, and go to properties. once in properties, click on the compatibility tab and go to "run this program in compatibilty mode for" area (select the radio button next to it) and select the operating system you want the game to be installed in. For Hitman 2, I selected Windowx XP. Once you do that, you should be all set. The game will install fine and will run with no problems. I don't know whether Contracts or Bloodmoney will run in Vista, but if they don't, just use the above method to solve the problem. I installed Codeman47 with no problems and hopefully I can run it in Vista without having to do the compatibility thing. Hope this helps...

The trilogy is great. There's something darkly funny about dropping a piano on someone. XD
The gameplay is simply amazing. The Ai is pretty much human or close. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a challenge and for those who just love stelth games. Hitman: Silent Assassins-9/10 Hitman: Contracts-10/10 Hitman: Blood Money-12/10

If you don't mind using a little stealth, this game is real fun. Great deal.

This isn't really a review about the games - they're all great. Specifically, this review is in regards to the cheap packaging this collection comes in. Don't get me wrong; $13 is an amazing price for these games. However, all Eidos has done is thrown each individual disc into one dvd case. It would have been nice to have Contracts and Silent Assassin on one dvd.
The worst part is that the discs aren't separated - they just sit on top of each other, waiting to scratch one another. I was disappointed about this because I was looking forward to getting a nicely put together collection of some of my favorite games, instead of Eidos' overstock thrown into a box. If I wanted to own a stack of scratched-up games, I'd just burn a bunch of pirated games to dvds and stack them in the spool the blank dvds come with. I purchase games specifically to avoid that hassle! Additionally, the instructions are all in black and white. Another strategy to make the collection cheaper? To me, they make it feel even more like a bootleg copy.

I bought this trilogy on a whim, really. I've enjoyed games like Splinter Cell and a number of other shooters that require some planning and tactics, and the Hitman series seemed like it would be a great bit of fun. I was not disappointed in the slightest. I'm still about halfway through Hitman 2, and I've definitely already gotten my money's worth already. Think about it, with some games costing as much as $60, this here is three full games for just $20. This is like, 89% off. Going to see a movie in the theater costs almost $10 now, and three games is a heck of a lot more entertainment than just 4-5 hours for two movies, especially considering how replayable these games are (every mission can be completed in many multiple ways). So the real question is, if you even suspect you might enjoy even just one of these games, why NOT buy this trilogy pack?

I love the Hitman series. Its a very frustrating and tough game because you need lots of patience, need to time things, watch movements, patterns, cause less noise, fire almost 0 shots etc. Essentially this isn't everyone's game. Its brutally hard in some places, but dumb in other places ( no one notices a guard with hair is now replaced by a baldo with a tattoo whom you've never seen before ), you can run all around but walk approaching guards with no suspicion whatsoever etc. I mean after all, its a game, what can you do.
Overall, this game is quite tough. After a couple of missions, I've switched to playing SWAT4 and Max Payne and Call of Duty and Rainbow Six. After a while of all this stealth, you just want to kick some ass. "Tango down" is what you want to keep hearing every 20 seconds. But definitely recommend this game if you like Splinter cell, Metal Gear Solid type games but taken to extreme level of challenge. Tough but rewarding once you figure out the perfect kill.

A great game(s) at a great price. The only bummer is that the original is not on there, but that's really no big deal. This game, while outdated graphically, is still a fantastic game. The story line and game play makes the game...and it does it well. If you like to get your use out of games, you can't go wrong with this series. There are endless ways to do each mission, so there is very little redundancy.

If you love Hitman, then there is no reason you won't love this product. Nothing is required, but a mouse and keyboard. I tried playing this with my standard wireless mouse and had a TON of lag. I purchased a cheap high speed gaming mouse for $35 here on Amazon.com and now I have zero issues with playing this game. If you don't have a highspeed mouse it might be something worth investing in if you plan to play games on your PC. Other than that, these games are great. Enjoy!

Bought the first Hitman for dirt cheap off a clearance rack. The game, for the age it is, is fairly impressive. The problem with the gameplay is that there are damn few hints on what to do at early levels. I figured out some of it, but it would be nice to have a couple of hints early on of what to look for, or of strategies. I can see why it's popular, and from a technical standpoint it's quite good. Without the hints, and without any ability to save within a mission, it's too easy to end up going over the same ground again and again trying to get to the point you screwed up and died.
As FPS's go, you really have to be into it, and be willing to go through a lot of irritating problem solving, such as having to figure out to ask for a key from someone who, under different circumstances, fires a double-barreled shotgun at you the minute they see you. In retrospect, the action makes sense, but a hint or two would have made this title a lot less tedious. |
