5.0 out of 5 stars The Early Years Of The Roaring 20s, February 9, 2011

This review is from: Hits of the 1920s (the Hits of (Audio CD)
In terms of selections presented for the years covered in their various releases, Naxos Nostalgia, a European outlet, is one of the best in the business. In addition to 4 pages of liner notes by David Lennick, you get recording dates and the original label numbers assigned to each release covering the years 1921 to 1923 in this Volume 2. The only thing you don't get are the chart performances for North America (or anywhere else for that matter). So, since the contents are not shown above and I have included them here, I also provide the Pop chart performance for each, where applicable.

1, Wabash Blues - Isham Jones & His Orch feat Louis Panico's "laughing cornet" - # 1 for 6 weeks December 1921/January 1922
2. Ain't We Got Fun? - Van & Schenck with the Charles A. Prince Orch # 1 for 2 weeks in August/September 1921
3. Kitten On The Keys - Zez Confrey & His Orch - # 5 in July 1922
4. I'm Just Wild About Harry - Marion Harris with the Isham Jones Orch - # 4 in November 1922
5. Three O'Clock In The Morning - Paul Whiteman & His Orch - # 1 for 8 weeks in November/December 1922
6. Margie - Eddie Cantor - # 1 for 5 weeks February/March 1921
7. The Sheik Of Araby - Rudy Wiedoeft's Californians - did not chart in November 1921
8. Palesteena - Frank Crumit with the Charles A. Prince Orch - # 11 in February 1921
9. Second Hand Rose - Fanny Brice with the Rosario Bourdon Orch - # 3 in February/March 1922
10. April Showers - Al Jolson with the Charles A. Prince Orch - # 1 for 11 weeks in March/April 1922
11. Mr. Gallagher And Mr. Shean: "Positively, Mr. Gallagher?" "Absolutely, Mr. Shean" - Ed Gallagher and Al Shean with the Nathaniel Shilkret Orch - # 1 for 6 weeks in November/December 1922
12. Hot Lips (He's Got Hot Lips When He Plays Jazz) - Paul Wgiteman & His Orch - # 1 for 6 weeks in September/October 1922
13. The Okeh Laughing Record (Lachplatte) - Otto Rathke & Lucie Bernardo, laughing, Otto Rathke, cornet - # 8 in September 1920
14. My Man - Fanny Brice with the Rosario Bourdon Orch - # 1 in February/March 1922 - the A-side of track 9
15. Barney Google - Billy Jones & Ernest Hare - # 2 in August 1923
16. It Ain't Gonna Rain No Mo' - Wendell Hall - # 1 for 6 weeks in February/March 1924
17. Toot, Toot, Tootsie (Goo'bye) - Al Jolson with the Charles A. Prince Orch - # 1 for 4 weeks in December 1922/January 1923
18. Timely Topics - Will Rogers - did not chart in February/March 1923
19. Yes, We Have No Bananas - Billy Jones - # 1 for 5 weeks in August 1923
20. Swingin' Down The Lane - Isham Jones & His Orch - # 1 for 6 weeks in August/September 1923

All original cuts representing the music that made up the early years of The Roaring 20s in great ADD sound reproduction, especially considering that these were recorded 90-odd years ago. And don't miss the great Will Rogers discussing various topics of the day. You'll also hear the bands that paved the way for the introduction of the Big Band Era starting about 1935.

This review is from: Hits of the 1920s (the Hits of (Audio CD)
This is a very good CD of original music from the early 20s. The sound of the music ismore identifiable with music of the WW1 era, than that of the late 20s. There is one asinine track on here simply of two people laughing that could have been very easily omitted---this one is just a waste of time. Otherwise, this is a good CD.
