Editorial Reviews

After 17 #1 singles, superstar Brad Paisley has amassed more than enough hits for his first official greatest hits package, but with Hits Alive, Paisley is determined to take a fresh approach, delivering much more for his fans than just the usual greatest hits.

Hits Alive will be a double-disc collection, with one disc packed with studio versions of Paisley favorites, while the companion disc spans hit after hit, all previously unreleased and recorded live on tour.

The project will once again team Brad with longtime producer Frank Rogers, with whom he s worked since Paisley s Platinum-certified 1999 debut album, Who Needs Pictures.

From the upcoming collection, the irresistibly warm-hearted single, Anything Like Me, penned by Paisley, Chris DuBois, and Dave Turnbull, is at country radio now.

If you only know Brad Paisley thru his hits, you only know half the story. His lyrics are both humorously clever and easy to relate to. His full albums are loaded with these types of songs, but if you want the hits, "Hits Alive" is a must have. Spanning two discs, the first disc, "The Hits", is just that, including the new single, "Anything Like Me". The second disc, "Alive", is just a small sample of what a Brad Paisley concert experience is like. He could have easily done a double live album but even that wouldn't have been as much fun as the actual concert is. What I thought was very cool album this album is how he went from the studio hits into the live tracks. The song "Online" begins as the studio track but about 3/4's of the way thru switches into the live version, and the live tracks begin. The album ends in the same way once again with the live version end of "Online" switching over to the studio version end.
This is a great album and is highly recommended, if you like what you hear and don't own any of his previous albums, check them out you won't be disappointed.

Hits alive is sort of a letdown. You don't get studio and live versions of every song and their are some key songs missing. It is still a pretty good greatest hits album but for these flaws I can only give it 3 stars.

This a fair overview of Brad's career, but's it's missing so many songs. They should of released a 2 disc set and a 2 disc live album and sold it for around $19. Sony Nashville dropped the ball here. He needs a career overview not this little slice of work.

I have always been fustrated by record companies who think we want a "greatest hits" collection to contain versions of the songs that are different than the originals. Here we have six songs that are only presented with new live recordings, four songs that are on the album twice, and one song that was never released as a single. Missing are several songs that were released as singles, the two highest charting being "Wrapped Around" and "Welcome to the Future".

I assume compilations like these are put together by marketing geniuses to try and squeeze and much money out of us as possible. The casual fan wants as many familiar songs on one CD as possible, the hard core fan wants to have the new versions in their collection AND it leaves the door open for another "True Hits Collection" in the future. Of course we have this one conveniently in time for Christmas.

I'm truely a big fan of Brad Paisley's music and what is on this disc makes for some great listening, but having waited for some time for this release I'm severely disappointed in the final product.

I've dug this cat for several years now, ever since a co-worker introduced me to him by letting me borrow the "Mud on the Tires" CD. Without being a clone of any of them, Paisley picked the right folks to influence him, it sounds like: I hear echoes of the following artists on this recording: Keith Whitley ("Whiskey Lullaby"); George Strait ("We Danced"); Alabama, ("Water"); Springsteen (song introduction and mid-song "confessional" in "Letter to Me"); and Jerry Reed ("Time Warp"). Some of the songs even have a little Louis Jordan quality to them.

BP even has an "Obama moment" when he says, "...I hope you fall in love to-NIGHT!"

Not only that, the Paisleyed one has a bit of an Aarod Rodgers look about him, too.

So, perhaps more than your average cat, Brad's a bit of a chameleon -- or sponge, at any rate.

My only "complaint" is that, rather than have a couple of the songs on here twice, it would have been better to just pick the best version (studio) and replace those duplicated tunes with a couple different ones, such as "Somebody Knows You Now" or "Hold Me In Your Arms" or "Is it Raining at Your House"

The only thing better than one Brad Paisley song is listening to a whole album of his hits! In particular, the duets with Alison Krauss 'Whiskey Lullaby' and Dolly Parton 'When I Get Where I'm Going' are personal favorites. I highly recommend this album!

I have to admit I am bias as is probably anyone who has seen Brad in concert. He is the real deal. I cannot wait to see him again live. Until then, Hits is a great addition to my collection.

This CD has 2 disks - one studio recordings, the other live performances. I love the studio recordings CD and listen to it almost every day. It's missing just one song that I love, and has only 2 songs that I don't like. That's a pretty good run for a CD. I don't enjoy the live recordings CD, however - and I never enjoyed going to rock concerts much, either, when I was younger. The CD has too much audience noise, too much show, and I don't feel the excitement of "being there". If you feel as I do about live concerts, you might want to look for another of Paisley's collections. If you love concerts and studio performances, this is a fantastic set for you.

Missing "who needs pictures"
I'm surprised it wasn't there either but I guess since it was on Playlist: The Very Best of Brad Paisley* along with 3 other hits mentioned below they didn't include it here too. As with most collections you can't please everyone. It's missing several good songs and with only... Read More
