Greate F&P compilation, March 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Hits Collection (Audio CD)
This 2 CD set is a great Flash and the Pan compilation. Disc 1 is the same as the CD "Collection" CD. What's different on this one is the 2nd CD. The 2nd CD contains rare remixes of some of Flash and the Pan's songs.

Not the best "Collection", January 7, 2009
Administrative note: Amazon has only one listing for "Collection" while there are evidently U.S. domestic and import versions. I own the U.S. version.
If you're only familiar with "Hey, St. Peter" (their one big hit) I recommend caution with Flash and the Pan. They favored a disco beat and playful songs that lack the edge of Hey, St. Peter. Just buy their eponymous LP (Flash & the Pan) and you'll get 2 other superior songs, Walking in the Rain, and California and may enjoy others.
Now for the typical grousing about a collection: what was left out. You won't even get California on this CD. I own three Flash and the Pan LPs, which is approx. half their output and risked buying this CD to enjoy some new songs. There's some tolerable stuff (Ayla, perhaps) but really found nothing new that appeals.
Choices: Early Morning Wake Up Call is a decent song from the LP with the same title, but I would have selected Look at that Woman Go. Similarly, Media Man and Welcome to the Universe (at nearly 9 minutes long) are inferior selections from the LP "Lights in the Night." I prefer Lights in the Night and Atlantis Calling, and these choices may have allowed inclusion of another song.
Overall, my guess is that disco tunes were favored over slower selections...I even believe the version of Early Morning Wake Up Call on this CD is faster than the original (though I don't have my record player hooked up presently and could be wrong). Again, I'd just buy the CD of their first work (Flash & the Pan) and then, please, give it a chance. This group used an odd combination of synth'd main vocals, an insistent beat, simple background vocals and occasional organ flourishes. Mostly lighthearted music but if it matches your mood it's pretty good. Walking in the Rain is a downbeat song that actually may be their best song, and since it is on this Collection, you could do worse.

Flash and the Pan - All of it!, June 25, 2000
This review is from: Hits Collection (Audio CD)
This is a great CD if you don't own some of this group's albums, as is my case. It is the best collection possible. I like some of their songs, and I'm happy to say that they are all in this CD! A great buy! Note: Tracks 16 to 23 are not included in the CD I own, and they look funny in the provided information. My guess is that it's a typo.
