Great Mix of Songs ....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Hits Collection (Audio CD)
Yet another SW "hits" package.. what are we up to now.. 11?I guess Capitol Records decided they needed to release this to piggy back on Steves latest album "Steal Another Day" released on his OWN label! This is a nice mix of songs from Steve's 3 Capitol CDs released between 1998-2000. Burnin' The Roadhouse Down (98'), Two Teardrops (99') & Faith In You (2000). If you don't own those CDs I'd recommend buying them over this hits compilation - because there is some fine song writing that never saw the light of day on radio or elsewhere and your truly missing out on some great Wariner tunes, vocals & guitar playing! The packaging on this cd is weak. (Very disappointing Capitol Art dept.) A few repeat pics from the Faith In You Photo shoot, no lyrics, no liner notes..not even musician credits. Pretty lame & an obvious attempt to ca$h in. The music is killer & that's all that really counts so it still gets my 5 stars..but if you already have the capitol cds, unless you collect them all just for fun.. there is no real pull here. A bonus track would have been nice. *Someday I will get my Steve Box Set complete with live stuff, outakes, demos, the songs that are registered at BMI that have yet to surface.... hint 4... Mr. SelecTone Records:-)

And "The Hits" Keep Comin',
By Chuck S. (New Jersey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hits Collection (Audio CD)
Steve Wariner, one of country's best, has been making great music for over 20 years now. And there has been numerous Greatest Hits packages over the years, some recently. Well, chalk another one up. This one, entitled "Hits Collection" is not to be confused with "The Hits" from MCA; and it showcases Steve's Capitol output. If you have the three Capitol albums, you don't need to add this because no "extras" are included. This CD is best recommended for those who usually buy Greatest Hits collections only, or for those who want "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" and "Two Teardrops" on the same disc. The music is great, and gets the 5 stars, but my only other gripe besides no rare or unreleased songs, is why only 11 songs? For example, where's "Road Trippin'", "You Be My Everything" or "Cry No More", or the Grammy nominated instrumental "The Harry Shuffle"? You get the idea. As another reviewer mentioned, and I agree 100%, do yourself a favor and buy all 3 Capitol CDs. After that, be sure to check out his latest, "Steal Another Day", because as I've said, he's one of country's best!

Best of Wariner's Capitol Recordings,

This review is from: Hits Collection (Audio CD)
With the triple threat of his mellow tenor, deft guitar playing, and immense songwriting skills, Steve Wariner has been a steady country hitmaker for over two decades. Industry respect, however, wasn't really forthcoming until his three-album tenure on Capitol Records from 1998-2000. The catalyst for this recognition was Wariner's 1998 single "Holes In The Floor Of Heaven," a Country Music Association winner for single and song of the year. This tearjerking ballad led to a series of similar vignettes, like "Two Teardrops" and "I'm Already Taken" that were also well-received. Duets also figured prominently during Wariner's Capitol years. Tradeoffs with Garth Brooks on the riproaring "Katie Wants A Fast One" and "Burnin' The Roadhouse Down" as well as the jazzy "Been There" with Clint Black endeared Wariner to a younger audience and provided a nice counterpoint to the ballad hits. Best of the lot is "What If I Said," Wariner's poignant, award-winning collaboration with Anita Cochran. There are no rare or unreleased tracks included on this eleven-track set (Wariner's scorching "Get Back" from the Beatles' tribute album Come Together would have been a welcome addition). For those without his Capitol albums, however, The Hits Collection is a compact overview of a country music vet at his songwriting peak. Highly recommended.
