5.0 out of 5 stars A Voice Too Good for Just Country, April 30, 2000
This review is from: Hits (Audio CD)
Gary Morris has one of, if not, THE best male voices in the music industry. Every song on this album shows just how powerful and emotional Gary can be. And it just taps the surface. What other "country" singer could ever do "La Boheme" or "Les Miserables?" John Berry is close, but not entirely in the same league as Mr. Morris. His versions of "Finishing Touches," "Wind Beneath My Wings", "The Love You Found in Me," and "100% Chance of Rain" are chill-inducing. He manages a little twang every now and then, to appease diehard country fans, but Gary is just too good to be called a "country" singer. The man can sing anything! This collection of hits should whet your appetite for more. IF you really appreciate an incredible voice, singing whatever they want, and doing it ALL so magnificently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gary Morris, Hits (1981-1987), May 28, 2000
This review is from: Hits (Audio CD)
This CD is an exceptional work of music. Mr. Morris has anincredible voice that I can spend hours listening to. It appears thatMr. Morris has recorded a few new CDs in recent years. It is beyond me why he does not have any air play on country music radio. A sound like this is truly what country music needs today. If you truly enjoy the country music of the 80s, I would highly recommend adding this CD to your music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCEPTIONAL, March 3, 2002

Gary has always been my favorite singer of all time. He has such a pure and versitile voice. I know that he and the industry did not see eye to eye on the music, but gee what a shame, he could have been bigger than Garth or any number of new artist. They can't come close to the eloquence that is in Gary's voice. A truely talented guy. As he has proven he can sing anything. His version of Wind Beneath My Wings was performed at my father-in-law's funeral, because he was the wind beneath my wings. Thanks Gary you did it your way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classics including Wind beneath my wings, February 12, 2004
This review is from: Hits (Audio CD)
Gary, a brilliant pop-country singer with a smooth voice, had a top five country hit with Wind beneath my wings, which was originally an R+B song. His version was not released in the UK, allowing Lee Greenwood to have a UK pop hit with it. Later it was covered by Bette Midler, who had a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic. I've heard all these versions and many others, but Gary's version is as good as any of them.

Most of Gary's biggest country hits are here. Apart from Wind beneath my wings, they include Velvet chains, Headed for a heartache, I'll never stop loving you (an original song, not to be confused with the old standard with the same title) and The love she found in me.

Two tracks here are different in style - the opening That's the way it is, sung with acoustic backing, and the closing Your little hand, which has nothing to do with country music but demonstrates Gary's ability as an opera singer. Although I am not a huge opera fan, I enjoyed this.

Despite the opening and closing tracks, there is less diversity on this album than on the companion album Hits 2, which contains more acoustic songs and three duets as well as any solo hits that are missing from this collection. Nevertheless, this set, with most of his biggest hits, is slightly the stronger of the two. If you enjoy eighties pop-country music by such stars as Lee Greenwood, you'll love Gary's music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gary Morris has one of the finest voices in music., January 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Hits (Audio CD)
This album is a fine example of the range of Gary Morris. From the Rock-a-billy to the near opera performance of the piece from LaBohemme. This is truly ear candy. Why Gary Morris is not a household name is beyond me.

I agree with the other reviewer that this album is one of the best I've heard in a very long time. Does anyone know why his career has disappeared?

The songs on this cd are the best. I had forgotten how enjoyable music was when it still had feeling and real storylines that get through to where you live. This guy has a amazing voice.
