Full title - Muhammad Ali and the Ultimate Sound of Fist Fighting. Released in conjunction with the reissue of Mike Marqusee's excellent book Redemption Song-Muhammad Ali And The Spirit Of The 60's. A compilation of Paeans to Ali in reggae (Dennis Alcapone's ''Muhammad Ali'' is the pick of these), Afrobeat and even Country & Western, courtesy of Tom Campbell, alongside curios like a snatch of George Foreman preaching and fellow heavyweight boxer Joe Frazier in his night job mode as soul brother on 'Try It Again'. By far the most inspired outings here are Trio Madjesi's '8ieme Round', which reflects the loose-limbed, fluid grace of Ali in the ring, and Jorge Benge's more Latino-tinged 'Cassius marcellus Clay', a further indication of Ali's pan-global and pan-cultural reach. This is one of the greatest (pun intended) compilations of all times. Great variety and most songs would stand alone fine. There might be a couple of novelty tracks (Ali was not the most gifted vocalist), but the other stuff is super-rare and you would search the crevices of obscure vinyl stores forever to get all these songs together.
