5.0 out of 5 stars This is the REAL 3 Doors Down!!!!!, May 1, 2002

If you've ever heard these guys-the first time you heard Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down- you probably thought it was them like I did.I bought their first album in 90, and damn it rocked!!!! They were the first of the 1990-91 bands that you couldnt figure if they were a hair band or alternative?? Seemed to be the perfect mix of both-pure fun. I could never understand why these guys never broke in the U.S.-they were absolutely brilliant. Listen to C'mon, Better, and pretty much anything off the All For One album, and hear some REAL ROCK.The lyrics on C'mon say it all------I hear the radio and the songs they play, makin my stomach turn, i just wanna hear some rock and roll, and watch my radio burn!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Concise hard rockin' package, April 11, 2008
This review is from: Hits & Pieces (Audio CD)
18 tracks of Australia hard rock comprise this album by a band who seemed poised to achieve so much more, and on an international scale too.

This disc showcases the fact that this rawk rock band had a very muscular bent most of the time and overall from this compilation we learn a number of things about this domestically successful band. One is that they were blessed with mulitple songwriters all capable of penning a dar fine pub rocker. Another is that they could address both youthful exuberance and some degree of introspection on some of the mellower numbers.

A further strong aspect of this collection is the pacing. Outright rockers such as C'mon and major domestic hit Better are interspersed with more plaintive tunes such as Needle and Shivers and numbers that fall somewhere between the two such as Helping Hand..

Weak points are few and far between espcially if your Australian because so many of these songs will already be familiar to you and will get that grin of recognition from you. And if your a newcomer you'll find The Screaming Jets style of rawk rock fairly easy to digest. This is mostly due to the strength of the riffs and rollickin' chorus construction.

An easy and breezy four stars for this fine compilation from an Australian band that seemed destined for bigger things than their eventual fate of the endless East Coast trek (Australian East coast that is).

2.0 out of 5 stars Hits & Misses, November 26, 2000
This review is from: Hits & Pieces (Audio CD)
I bought this cd primarily to round out my Oz pub rock collection - I'd enjoyed a number of Screaming Jets singles over the years but never enough to buy an album. I took a punt on this greatest hits collection and was disappointed.

There are at most half a dozen good rock songs, such as Better, Helping Hand, Shivers, October Grey and Eve of Destruction, and maybe one or two others. The rest are bland and indistinguishable from each other.

If they'd left out the "pieces" and cut it down to the best 10 or so songs I'd probably have given it 3.5 stars and recommended it to anyone who has enjoyed any of the above mentioned songs. However with the gems scattered through the dross, this cd rarely makes it into my stereo, so it is for hard-core fans only - who probably already have all the songs anyway.

If you're looking for some awesome Oz pub rock, check out Hunters & Collectors' Under One Roof, a live recording from their final tour. Brilliant.
