A life of music,
By
This review is from: 25 Hits Special Collection (Audio CD)
Despite those supposedly funny cracks through the years about the Osmonds' milk-and-honey over-sweetness, few can argue they didn't turn out music that contains a chapter all its own in rock and country annals. But this one, billed as Marie's best (which they certainly are), also pairs her with brother Donny for all those timeless duos, and we get an absolutely delightful life of music from the gal whose first recorded single ("Paper Roses") gave her a No. 1 hit at age 12. Along with Marie's solo hits into her adult career ("There's No Stoppin' Your Heart," "You're Still New To Me," "Meet Me in Montana") there are some hidden gems, many of them country-oriented like "Big Hurts Can Come (From Little White Lies)," "True Love Lasts Forever" and a terrific cut of Anita Bryant's "My Little Corner of the World." Of course, a Marie anthology isn't really one without brother Donny, and the brother-sister smash duos are all here ("I'm Leaving It All Up to You," "Deep Purple, "Morning Side of the Mountain"). You don't have to be an Osmond fan to savor this collection, a terrific anthology from a tremendously gifted singer whose range from country to rock is astounding. If you're in the market for maybe one of the best of collections of Marie by herself and with Donny, this is a must-have.

I love the Osmonds,

I love this CD, but I have to agree that they missed out on some really good hit singles by Marie. I have been looking for "THIS IS THE WAY THAT I FEEL" and I can not find it anywhere. I wish they had given their selection of songs more thought and left the Donny & Marie duets on a Donny and Marie CD. I love them both, but if I want to hear Donny and Marie I want to buy a Cd of them together. But in my opinion, I am just glad to see anything offered by the Osmonds. I have really missed them.

I WAS SO SURPRISED AS TO HOW MUCH I ENJOYED THIS CD. THERE WAS ONLY ONE SONG THAT I THOUGHT WAS A LITTLE 'CORNY'. THE REST WERE SHEER LISTENING PLEASURE. I HAD FORGOTTEN HOW GREAT A VOICE MARIE HAD. I HAPPENED TO HAVE SEEN HER ON 'BIOGRAPHY' AND THE FEW SONGS THEY PLAYED REMINDED ME OF HOW MUCH I ENJOYED HER SINGING. THE CD WAS SO GREAT I JUST BOUGHT HER OTHER ONE.

This Is The Way That I Feel!,

At last, Paper Roses in it's original version. The intro to In My Little Corner Of The World is different than the LP. And where are her 2 other only top 40 solo hits, Who's Sorry Now? and This Is The Way That I Feel!>? It's nice that they put the same Donny & Marie duets, but how about May Tomorrow Be A Perfect Day or I'm A Little Bit Country? I want to compile the next collection!

"Paper Roses" to Dan Seals..,,

Marie Osmond charted country records at the beginning of her career and during her 1980s resurgence on the music scene. With an infectious voice, she stole hits from Connie Francis and Anita Bryant(her only hit, thankfully). Collected here is a pretty comprehensive look at Marie's recording career; a highly uneven one to boot. The compilation is carefully chronicled and well researched. There's enough Marie Osmond here to satisfy the fanatical and casual listener. Casual fans may tune out before track 24.

I agree with the other reviewer who wants to compile the next Marie compilation. This is missing some major Marie memories such as "This Is The Way That I Feel" - a 70s Top 40 hit which is next to impossible to find anywhere. I would have included more of her solo hits (both early and later career tunes) and fewer with brother Donny. (Although, I like Donny too.) Instead of the Donny & Marie duets chosen, they missed hits I would have chosen such as "On The Shelf" and "You're My Soul & Inspiration." The songs are fine on this CD but, overall, this compilation is a hodgepodge thrown together by someone who didn't know what he or she was doing.

I really do not want to put down Marie Osmond. Let's just say most of these songs were made in the '70s when she was a teen, with other people telling her what songs to sing and how to sing them. I LOVE Marie Osmond. But even I can't get thru these songs. This is the way that I feel is not even on here. That song and the album of the same name are really great and should be on cd. I lent my vinyl copy to a "friend" and never got it back. The best songs are the last ones on the cd and you can get those on her country cd's available at budget prices. Those are the best cd's to get if you're interested Marie's music.
