If you are fresh out of college.....,
By Love to learn "Lisa" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hitting Your Stride: Your Work -- Your Way (Capital Career & Personal Development) (Capital Career & Personal Development) (Paperback)
I bought Hitting Your Stride for my nephew who graduated from college last year and can't seem to find his niche in the corporate world yet. I read it before I gave it to him, there is a lot of wonderful information written in a fun and engaging way for any young person starting their career. Ms. Russell has done a fabulous job using many interesting scenarios. I highly recommend this book for all young people and their parents, it gives you a new outlook on what your children are facing and how they can handle these new challenges. Times have changed, that's for sure.

Buy it not just for yourself but for your friends and family too!,
This review is from: Hitting Your Stride: Your Work -- Your Way (Capital Career & Personal Development) (Capital Career & Personal Development) (Paperback)
I can't think of a better book to recommend for folks thinking about their future during these challenging times. Nan provides personal examples, valuable success stories, and thoughtful ideas for moving toward work that is authentic and passionate. It is interesting reading throughout. She shares insightful ways to move toward career success. This isn't one of those books filled with platitudes and simple clichés. This is a keeper.
I especially like the way Nan lets us into her thinking. We see how she has struggled with situations. I particularly appreciated her chapter on "Shades of Grey," sharing how most work issues can't be dealt with in absolutes but are, rather, as she says, more human, more complex, and more heart engaged. Life isn't black or white. Her other chapters - like Creating Your Own Luck, Bringing Yourself to Work, and Waking Up - helped me to understand myself better and what I can do in my life to "Hit My Stride." Buy it for yourself, but also for friends, co-workers, and family who are reconsidering what they want their work to be and to become.

No-nonsense career advice, dispensed with anecdotes from the author's own life to make for friendly reading. Unlike preachy self-help books that end up sitting unread on the shelf, this book invites repeat visits and is set up so that you can dip into chapters in whichever order appeals to you.

Recession Proof Your Career,
This review is from: Hitting Your Stride: Your Work -- Your Way (Capital Career & Personal Development) (Capital Career & Personal Development) (Paperback)
Personally I am not a READER as some people say, but when I picked up Nan Russell's book, Hitting Your Stride, I couldn't put it down. I actually read it in two days!!! It was entertaining and yet, full of great information. I first thought that it would be perfect for myself trying to hit that first job after college, but now I see it is perfect for any age and any walk of life. Especially right now, with a lot of the population losing their jobs, it is such a great boost on how to keep your job, or get another one. I am buying it for people that I think could benefit from this and then asking them to pass it on, once they finish to help other people in need. I think this book could get anybody back on track. GET THE BOOK. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
