Do not buy this so-called blood pressure monitor.
Peter T., Kilborn
I took the unit to the MD with me to make sure I was positioning it correctly and the sys was 50mmhg higher than the doctor's office.

No matter how many attempts I made at getting a reading, I only got error messages.

Even though I bought this at a local retailer rather than through Amazon (my doctor wanted me to get it before leaving on a trip I had planned for the next day) I have discovered one very troublesome design flaw that buyers should be aware of. This monitor comes in a travel pouch; the problem is, each time you handle the pouch it activates the monitor to begin inflation. The instruction booklet clearly states "do NOT to inflate the cuff unless wrapped around your arm". That would be easy enough IF ONLY it weren't so sensitive to touch or if there were an on/off switch. But there isn't. Even though I exert extra care to avoid pressing the start/stop button when handling the pouch, it invariably inflates when handled. In addition to this design flaw, I have found that readings taken back-to-back often differ by more than 10 or 15 points or that I get repeated error messages even after waiting 5 minutes between readings as the instructions advise. To make matters worse, I paid $60 to buy this thing at KMart and doubt that KMart will be willing to help me with my complaint. I so wish I had been able to purchase through Amazon because they always stand behind the products they sell. On the plus side, there is a very nice feature with this monitor in that it records (by date and time) readings for two separate users. Easy enough to take it with you for your next doctor visit for his/her review. My doctor has asked me to bring it in so she can compare its accuracy against her office monitor. I'll let you know how that fares after my appointment next week.
UPDATE 7/11/11: After writing the initial review on this item, the monitor quit functioning. No matter how many attempts I made at getting a reading, I only got error messages.

I purchased this unit after researching brand names, thinking it would be a good unit for the price. I was wrong. If anything this little machine raises my blood pressure due to the frustration of repeated error readings. My whole family practically holds their breath while waiting for my reading, in hopes that some tiny vibration doesn't cause an error. Does no good. This was a waste of money which I couldn't afford to waste.

When I brought it in to my cardiologist's office for a side-by-side comparison with my pressure as they measured it, this monitor was consistently 10 or more points higher and grossly inaccurate. I have had much better experience with the Omron Bp652 7 Series Blood Pressure Wrist Unit.

This is a good unit for the money. It is easy to use, has easy to follow intructions and has all the features I was looking for. However, the instruction manual DOES NOT tell you how to connect it to your computer to download stored data and that was one of the primary features I was interested in. (With the use of a USB cable you can download info to a program like Health Vault.) The other thing is that this is a digital unit. Great for ease of use, but not clinic accurate and Homedics states that fact right in the owners manual. My Doctor has often told me that "if it is digital, it is lieing." My unit consistantly reads about 10 points higher than a traditional BP reading taken with a cuff and stethascope. I knew this before making my purchase and my Doctor is okay with the readings. He is more interested in spotting trends between visits and this unit delivers those results.

My husband got this for me for an early Xmas present. My BP is usually 120/80. This thing fills up to 170, then releases a bit and then inflates to 217, and it starts turning my arm black! Then it either says my BP is too high, or it gives me an error that it couldn't read the data. Definitely not accurate by any means.

The product came on time and in good condition. My issue is that I could not rely on the blood pressure readings that I received from using this product. The monitor was overly sensitive that if I did not "breathe right" (breathe steadily and not swallow my saliva), I could always count on the machine to give me an ERROR message. I always have to check another blood pressure monitor to confirm the results. I have an Omron purchased from an area store that is more reliable, less sensitive and can be plugged in. Aside from the sensitivity issue causing this equipment to be less reliable, I would have loved if this equipment included a power cord and not just the hole to put it in.

I suffer from anxiety. I was borderline hypertensive due to high stress and anxiety. I was keeping track of my readings to avoid taking medication. @ my doctors office, my BP was getting better. @ home with this machine I get multiple error messages. After 5+ tries I get a reading. Which of course is high by the frustration and fighting with the machine. One time it said my BP was 201/110 with a pulse of 20? Lmao! I got caught up that I felt like I was going to pass out. I don't believe this machine anymore. I'm going to test it @ my doctors office.

The unit I ordered came pretty fast and just as specified and more. It came with two cuffs (1 fits a normal upper arm and 1 fits a larger upper arm) plus it has a USB port you can upload to Microsoft's HealthVault. I followed the instructions that are in the manual and on the cuff about the placement of the cuff and pushed the button to start. It inflated, then inflated some, then then inflated further once more. According to the unit I was stage 2 hypertension but I don't doubt it because it inlated so much I could feel my blood trying to rush through as it deflated. Took it to my doctor's office to compare...doctor got 107/80...the unit read 157/108. There is no place on the unit where adjustments can be made. After using it for a couple of weeks and trying everything I could to adjust the cuff and/or myself to get it to work..I perform the final test and ask myself a question to goet to the bottom line: "Would I buy it again?" No "Would I try another product by Homedics?" The possibility if very high but it won't be a blood pressure monitor.
