5.0 out of 5 stars Good Product
Very Useful. I haven't tried the moist heat but the dry heat works great. I can lie on top of it and gives soothing heat to my back. Me and my wife use it regularly. Best of all a good buy for mere 12 bucks i paid. CVS and Duande Reade Pharmacy charge $30 for their heating pads which is such a rip off.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was adequate when it worked (failed within 6 months of use)
I bought this back in April 2006, but didn't actually start to use it until maybe Oct 2006 when it got truly cold at night. (I would use it under my blankets on the low setting as a footwarmer. :). At that time I was satisfied with the performance considering the low price. I did not like that any radio plugged into a socket/outlet "close" to the socket the pad was using...

It's hard to find a normal sized heating pad without auto shut-off these days, but this one fits the bill. It was worth the couple of extra dollars above the regular ones for the smaller size wires that really do make it more flexible and comfortable. I have no problem with the controller that another reviewer mentioned. Perhaps they've upgraded it since then. Overall, this is a great product worth every penny (I paid about $15).

The heating pad worked fine. Since burns are related to the temperature and the duration of exposure, contemporary pads are not as hot as the one Grandma used (and are less likely to lead to a personal injury lawsuit). So adjust your expectations a bit and you'll be more satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luck of the draw?, February 27, 2007

It seemed many of the reviews here are negative. However, it's served me well so far(knock on wood.) I purchased this for my aging mother & she has used it everyday for 2+months, about 30 minutes each use. She uses it as part of her therapy.

The lowest setting seems a bit useless & the highest seems warm enough. However, I do believe the level of warm is highly subjective. Not being the first Homedics product I have owned, I also feel that their their manufacturers' quality control vary greatly.

For myself, I consider this purchase to be well worth it & I do believe that given the nature of this product, it will not last forever.

If you do chose to try this product out, I hope you end up with a good one too. *fingers crossed*

At that time I was satisfied with the performance considering the low price. I did not like that any radio plugged into a socket/outlet "close" to the socket the pad was using would get periodic bursts of noise from the heating pad's controller, but I learned to live with that.

However, back in February the pad started working only intermittently for me. At the moment I can't get it to warm up for me at all so it may be completely dead. My guess is that some of the internal heating element wiring of the pad eventually broke from just normal usage. I can live with cheap so long as it works for me. Sadly, my experience was that this heating pad failed even that very minimal test.

I'm surprised Amazon is selling this low quality item. If you read the reviews on the King size pad with the same features, it's more accurate. This did not get warm enough even on high. I used it exactly two times over a two day period and then it died. It's not worth the warranty fee of $5.00 plus the postage to return it to Homedics. Pure junk.

The Chinese manufactured control is defective and causes product failure within a month.
