I would never have bought this for myself; my mother-in-law got it for me for Christmas. I was skeptical and didn't even take it out of the packaging for a while. I don't have artificial nails and consider myself to be pretty low maintainence in the beauty department. Anyway, I decided that I should give it a whirl and I have to admit that it works very well. If you're just using it on your natural nails, it does shape, file, and buff effectively and only takes a few minutes. It is very easy to use and has 2 speeds so that you can file quickly or more slowly. I've always had okay nails - no major problems, but certainly nothing spectacular. After using this manicure kit, my nails are all equal in length/shaped the same and tend to break and chip much less. I haven't had a nail break for months and I haven't used any polish during that whole time. It also does a great job of pushing back your cuticle. If you're looking for an easy way to get better looking nails, give this kit a try! PS. It does need a longer cord - get a short extension to go with it!

2.0 out of 5 stars needs a longer cord!, August 13, 2001
This review is from: HoMedics MAN-300 2 Pack Manicure/Pedicure Kit with Nail Dryer (Health and Beauty)
I bought this nail care kit after trying and returning other brands. This one is just O.K. and unfortunately it's the best one I've tried. (email me about the other 5 I tried if you have questions)

1.GOOD FEATURES: It looks cool. The handle has two speeds. I love the light touch nail dryer (refer to picture). The two tiny tiny cones are fabulous for shaping up around your nail bed. The filing disks are easy to use, once you've had practice. The large filing/grinding cone is awesome for grinding away rough skin. Great price!

2.BAD FEATURES: It's noisy. The buffing head does not work. I got sick of the hassle of changing heads all the time. The case is hard to open.

So you probably want to know why I still think this one is a keeper. Well, I file my natural nails now manually because the kit is so slow, taking up to an hour, BUT...this is the only kit I tried that truly works on acrylic nails! Ever try those drug store nail kits and you have to file down the acrylic for hours? This machine does all that in seconds! No damage occurs from this kind of use. So save money from expensive manicures and do it yourself! The HoMedics nail spa will pay for itself in one use. Just please get an extention cord! You don't need to be sitting next to the wall like I did when I first used it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product! I love it!, December 25, 2001

I received this for a Christmas present and it is by far the best manicure set I've ever tried! Everyone keeps complaining on here about a short cord-- I don't know what they're talking about! It's certainly not a 25 footer or anything, but it's plenty long enough to use while sitting at any desk or table with an electric outlet under or near it. It's stretchable (the cord that is). The attachments are high quality, and work wonders. This set is so compact! I am absolutely in love with it. My one small complaint is that the nail-dryer doesn't speed drying time that much (although it does speed it up a bit, especially the top coat, which is most important anyway). Overall, I would highly recommend this product, and I think the other raters of this product are being too picky.

This might sound weird, but it depends on what you want to do with it.
You're probably thinking:"Duh!" but I'm quite serious.

It is NOT a good replacement for your manicurist.

First of all, keep in mind that the cord is about 2 feet long (or shorter) so if you want to use it without facing the wall (it won't reach otherwise), make sure you have an extension cord.
Second of all, not all of the accessories are actually useful. Out of the SIX heads, only THREE were of any use. The other three are either too rough to use or don't reach or act the way it is supposed to do (based on directions in manual).
Third of all, it's too rough on natural nails. I would only recommend it if you have acrylic and need to smooth rough edges or need to fix something and can't make it to the manicurist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great at home manicure, February 12, 2001

This is probably the best at home manicure kit out there. For the price, it pays for itself in two uses. The drill handle is easy to control and the bits in the kit are just what you need to give your nails a good cleaning. Cuticles are also easy to remove. I was at first afraid that this might be rough on my nails and cuticles. But with the first use, I found it was just the opposite. The nail dryer is also a great feature. I've even found myself offering to give manicures to my family. Its actually fun to use and does a superb job. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a professional maniucure at home.

I received this product for Christmas. It did a wonderful job on my toenails. How could you mess up toenails.

However, you'd better be careful doing your nails on your hand. Not being familiar with the product I grooved out part of my nails when trying to just remove the cuticle.

Be careful, it takes talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but well worth the money, March 13, 2001

It took me about fifteen minutes to get used to the rather agressive drill action after which I could operate it with proficiency and achive professional results. I probably could achieve same results with a regular file but this kit is much less boring and after some practice very easy to use. My only complaint is the nail dryer which is noisy and has a very annoying pitch with little actual drying action. Also, the electrical cord is short and unless you sit right in front of the electical outlet you will need an extention cord. The box is compact (10 1/2" by 6 1/2") and very attractively looking like all HoMedics products and overall it can make a nice gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!, July 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: HoMedics MAN-300 2 Pack Manicure/Pedicure Kit with Nail Dryer (Health and Beauty)
I LOVE this product! I had originally bought one for my elderly mother-in-law who constantly makes stops to the beauty shop for manicures.(not to mantion for frequent perms) She thanked me very much and mentioned how lovely it was. Then she gave me a sample of it. I was amazed that someone who is 72 years of age who has arthritis in her hands could do this so easily - and beautifully, all with the touch of a button! I later went back to the store and bought one for myself. I now frequently pamper myself with manicures that make my nails grow in stonger and healthier and let my 16 year old daughter use it - escpecially before big dates! Go out and buy this thing now - your whole family will thank you!

I love this Homedics manicure set, model MAN-300! I have natural nails and do use nail polish occasionally. Since I got this manicure set, I have used it frequently - much to my surprise. An extension cord is necessary because I'm usually sitting at a table or on the sofa when using the manicure set. Before, I'm a little embarrassed to say, I never kept up with my own manicures often enough and now with this machine, my hands and feet are now in the best condition ever because this machine is so easy to use and is effective. And the big filer attachment is great - I'm removing callouses on my feet and it's amazing to feel them so soft. About that other reviewer that said it was hard for that person to insert the attachments - I tried forcing them for the first minute, too, and then realized it only needs to be gently turned in place and it'll go in securely with a solid click. By the way, I now am using fingernail polish more often as my hands look so good these days (I'm filing off some ever-so-slightly unsmooth skin there, too). And I'm proud of the condition of my feet.

I was really disappointed with this product. Does not work well at all. I did not return it, but considered doing so. Wish I would not have bought it. Can do my nails just as well with an old fashionsed file............. Don't waste your money...........

Wish someone would have warned me.
