I was given a HoMedics "Neck and Shoulder Shiatsu Massager with Heat" as a gift, and I'm glad as it not something I would have bought for myself. I have a neck problem caused by arthritis and it is amazing how much relief the massaging and heat brings in just a few minute of use.

This is a well made and good looking unit that sits comfortably around your neck. It must be plugged in to work and it comes with a fairly long cord. There are two options, Massage or Massage with Heat. The massage strength and heat setting cannot be adjusted, but the factory settings are just about perfect for me. I also like that there two handholds that makes it easy to direct where the massaging nubs press.

This was a good gift that works much better than I expected it too!

Highly Recommended!

This unit is much better then the normal homedics neck massager. First is that it has the shiatsu, so it feels like two thumbs rotating around your spine bone. The 2nd is the heat feature feels really good. The units switch has two settings also, heat or no heat, it can get pretty warm if you massage for more then an hour on the heat setting so it's a good feature.

I received this product and it feels like a hand is nicely massaging the back of my neck. You can also move it up or down on your neck which is great too. Nothing beats my husbands neck massages but his fingers have started hurting recently and this will take the pressure off of him.

I have neck pain quite often that becomes so intense it turns into a migraine and makes me sick to my stomach. It's terrible. The few doctors I've seen have said I have mild Scoliosis but nobody really seems to think there is anything that can be done for me. A few years ago, my husband got me a Conair neck massage pillow very much like this one, only it only had a vibration and heat mode. It was a saving grace for my life to have this. If anyone else suffers from similar neck issues, you know how bad it can get and I have two small children to care for. Off days aren't an option. The Conair massager helped relieve the pain enough to function, but recently we lost the power cord and I had been in severe pain for days trying to find it.

My husband came home with this product when I was having another bad day with my neck and still couldn't find the cord to my Conair massager. I've sat in the shiatsu massage chairs before so I was eager to see if this was different. It's kind of a scary feeling if you aren't used to shiatsu massage. Other massage products simply vibrate - this one actually rubs into the muscle the way a real massage therapist would to relieve knots. I am a small woman, about 5'4 and 110 lbs but haven't really had a problem with the massager being too big for my neck, as another reviewer stated. I do lean back in the couch with it behind my neck with the massager propped against the back of the couch.

A half hour after my husband was home and I had relaxed with this around my neck in shiatsu/heat mode and I was singing the praises of this massager. I like this even more than the vibration model I had before. It worked much more quickly. There aren't any speed settings or varying degrees of heat on the heat setting. The only switch simply goes from shiatsu, OFF, to shiatsu heat. The cord is already built in, which is a huge plus, because it means no more lost cords. The massage was not too rough, nor was it too gentle and I suspect the handles on it are so you can pull it in tighter if you want a deeper massage or relax it if you don't. The heat setting was absolutely perfect - not extremely hot...but you could feel just enough heat to penetrate and relax the muscle. I really like the material this is made from, as well. It feels like an automotive seat cover - soft, not too stiff and it's an attractive black & grey with some burgundy leather-look accents. It's a little noisy when you have it around your neck since it's close to your ears, but not deafening, but only a soft whirring sound to those around you.

I have several HoMedics products around my house...everything from small zen fountains to exercise equipment and I am always delightfully surprised with the quality and price of their products. I think this one will definitely replace my old Conair massager, even if we do find that power cord...

Homedics Neck and Shoulder Massager with Heat / B001HRZ2AI

I have a lot of neck pain, and I bought this hoping that it would help, but this massager just isn't doing it for me. The unit is designed to fit around the neck, and I must say that it's a good thing those handle-bars are there, because if there wasn't something to hold onto the unit would slide directly down your back and onto the floor. I also find myself having to use the handles to pull "inwards", in order to get and maintain good contact with my neck - it almost feels like this was designed for someone with a much thicker neck than me, but I'm not exactly a dainty flower. Bracing the unit against a high-backed seat and leaning back into it doesn't really help - the unit is thick and bulky and such a position is pretty much guaranteed to make your back start aching.

I'm kind of disappointed, too, that this only reaches the far back of your neck, and the rotator balls are fixed in position and can't move from side to side. You could rotate the unit manually, but again the bulky size and weight prohibit that from being practical. Outside of "Off/On/Heat", there's no customizing of location or massage strength. I guess I'm spoiled by my other homedics massager, the Homedics Therapist Select Masseur-In-A-Box Massage Mat, with all its options and customizations, but when I get a better "massage" from resting my neck on the bed headboard and rolling my neck from side to side than I do from this expensive massager, then I can't help but feel a little unsatisfied.

I was given a gift of a vibrating neck massager which just felt like my brain was being scrambled. I traded it in for this one, and I think it was a good choice. Gets hot pretty quickly. Nice rotating motion massages the neck. Sometimes I feel like I need to hold it in the right place or apply more pressure, but overall, it does the trick. I leave it out on my couch and all my friends really enjoy it as well.

This product works as advertised (a little light on the heat part). It is somewhat large and rigid and is hard to store next to my chair. I would like the product much better if it did not have an electrical cord to be bothered with - perhaps batteries would be better. The massage part works great. The heat part is not really warm as I would like.
