5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product.
We put up with our old scale for many years, until it finally died--thank goodness because it wasn't very accurate or consistent. We bought this HoMedics SC-475 a few weeks ago and are very impressed with it. It is accurate and consistent. The readout is so clear and big that I (age 80) don't need my glasses to see it. It feels sturdily made.

2.0 out of 5 stars Looks nice, but I can never get a consistent reading
I really wanted to like this thing, with its attractive design, easy-to-read numbers and sturdy construction. Unfortunately, even though I placed it on a flat, hard surface as instructed, I can never seem to get a consistent reading out of it. This morning I stepped on it twice in row and somehow "put on" a pound and a half in the course of 5 seconds. I don't know if I...

I can't recommend it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good if you want to know how much you weighed yesterday., October 1, 2009

My experience is similar to what I've seen in other reviews here. After you weigh yourself once, you will keep seeing that *exact* weight displayed for the next several days. You won't see a new reading on the scale unless your weight changes by more than 1.5 pounds or so. (Which makes the claimed 0.2 lb precision seem kind of silly.)

Thus, in order to get a fresh reading each morning, you have to get the scale to forget your weight from yesterday. Calibrating the scale (by tapping it) does not accomplish this. You have to weigh some other object. Once it has that new weight in its memory, you can use the scale to weigh yourself, and get a different reading than you had the previous day.

Needless to say, a bathroom scale should not require this much effort to use.

It's a shame, because it does have a nice large display and an attractive slate surface, making it distinct from all the glass-and-chrome clones on the market. But I need a scale that tells me my *current* weight, not yesterday's. And this one doesn't fit the bill.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ive had a lot of trouble with this scale, February 29, 2008
This review is from: HoMedics SC-475 Digital Bath Scale with Tile Pattern Platform, Instant On and Auto Off (Health and Beauty)
The company was very good about taking the scale back when it didn't work after a new battery was put in it. They sent another scale back and it worked for a month or so, but now it's not working again. I put in a new battery and all I got were 0's. Now not even the 0's show up. Very frustrating.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Scale!!, July 18, 2009

This scale is terribly frustrating and inaccurate. I would say it weighs 2 lbs heavy all of the time (if you can even get a reading out of it). Mine always says ERROR at first reading. I have to constantly tap it ( or take out the battery and put it back in) to finally get it callibrated. Remembers the previous weight up to 1.5 lbs which is so discouraging for anyone tracking their weight loss progress. I hate it, and wish I could remember the brand I had before!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Accurate but Faulty Quality, March 29, 2009

I did not notice problems with accuracy, and I followed the instructions and re-calibrated it each time I used it (step on it lightly, but step off, then step on again) but after two weeks the scale went caput. I'll give it three stars because the letters are large and it's a pleasant scale... It just has this quality control problem.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent. Thus, it's worthless., May 31, 2011
This review is from: HoMedics SC-475 Digital Bath Scale with Tile Pattern Platform, Instant On and Auto Off (Health and Beauty)
I came to Amazon.com today to order a new scale to replace this piece of garbage, which my husband and I received as a wedding gift off our registry a few years ago. This scale is so incredibly inconsistent. I can get on it 5 times in a row, and get 5 different weights. And these weights aren't within .1 or .2 of one another. No, the weights are often several pounds off. I am tired of this scale, and will be replacing it with a much better brand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed., April 13, 2011
This review is from: HoMedics SC-475 Digital Bath Scale with Tile Pattern Platform, Instant On and Auto Off (Health and Beauty)
I really wish I had done a little research before buying this unit. The .2 pound increment claim is very misleading. It took me several weeks to notice that my weight on the scale didn't change until I had dropped at least 1.4 pounds from the previous reading, which is very disheartening if your looking for that motivation to keep that diet going. It is completely ridiculous to be expected to recalibrate the scale before every use to get an accurate reading. I would definitely go in a different direction.

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks Good-Bad Scale, December 25, 2010
This review is from: HoMedics SC-475 Digital Bath Scale with Tile Pattern Platform, Instant On and Auto Off (Health and Beauty)
Bought this scale several years ago at a department store. Looks good but never gives accurate readings. My weight can change by as much as three pounds per day and sometimes give the same weight for several days. I have even weighed myself and then waited several hours, picked up a 1 1/2 pound weight, weighted myself again and still gotten the same weight. I should have taken back but didn't. This is a bad scale. Don't buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discard first reading, others consistent (for me, at least), August 19, 2009

I bought this when my old Homedics digital scale went under after about 15 years. I've found that if I move the scale, I have to throw out the first reading after I move it. Also, if I haven't used it for a few days, I just have to throw out the first reading when I start re-using it again. In my experience, if you do this, all the subsequent readings will be consistent. It looks good, and it has worked well for me so far.
