Not a bad little machine. The sound loop for the 6 sounds is pretty good, if you listen (actually listen) to the loop, you can find where it starts repeating. The only thing I didn't like about this machine is that the lights for the on/off and timer are a bit bright! I solve this by putting a small towel over the area. Also, you have to remember to shut it off, or the batteries will wear out quickly! (I'm in Europe and can't use the AC plug.) Other than this, I would recommend it for people who want to either block out surrounding sounds (from outside mostly) or don't like to fall asleep with total quiet.

A fine little machine. Does what it says it should do and does it well. There are a variety of quality sounds all relaxing. The heartbeat sound is a bit creepy, but for some that may be ok. The sounds of the ocean are our favorite, though you do hear seagulls in the background. The sound quality is excellent and fills a room nicely. The addition of the timer or unlimited play is helpful. A good little machine.

I love the idea behind this, it is a basic white nosie maker to drown out noise for our daughter to sleep, even camping since it runs on a couple of batteries! But after only a month....it started shorting out...we can still coerce it to work..but I know we eventually won;t be able to. Bummer!

Our family has really benefitted from this white noise machine. We love it because it helps our baby son sleep soundly in our house and it makes a new environment feel familiar to him since we take it with us wherever we go for overnight trips. During nap time, it drowns out the dog's barking and he sleeps right through ringing phones, conversation noise and traffic noise too. When I'm in need of an emergency nap, I use it myself to help shush away thoughts and songs stuck in my head...or just noise around the house that might distract me from getting a few zzzzz-s. I've bought this item for a few "new mama" friends and they love it too. It's better than other brands because the volume goes pretty high, which is necessary for an infant who actually prefers a noisy sleeping environment. We had one before this one, and it was way too gentle and quiet. As soon as we switched to the Homedics brand, our baby's sleeping changed for the better! The only thing that could be improved about this product is that the cord is pretty sensitive and if it's not firmly connected to the wall or the unit, it will sometimes cut off with no warning.

We own two of these, and use them every night (one in toddler's room, one in adults' room). While at first they were effective and dependable, after a few months they stopped working consistently and sound like they are "shorting out" when you turn them on. Sometimes they'll just turn off and on in the middle of the night, for no reason other than cheap production.
We are shopping for another model because we have become accustomed to sleeping with white noise, but I will never buy this brand again.

When we received our first item, the volume knob was "crackly" and you had to jiggle it to get it to work. We sent it back to Amazon and received a replacement. The replacement worked fine for about 6 months, and started to have the same problem. This problem doesn't kill the machine, you can use Radio Shack's Tuner Lubricant to spray the contacts and get it to work again. The quality of the potentiometer is quite low, however, and if you don't want to have to do maintenance, I'd suggest looking around for another machine.

This is my severalth soundmachine I have purchased over that last 10 years from HoMedics. This is the basic model, adjustable volume, no clock etc. But you can turn it up pretty loud to drown out other noises & have a good nights sleep. Good for sleeping babies too. I have never used the timer feature, we keep ours on all night. I also like the fact that its a basic model so it travels well if you travel & cannot sleep w/out it. If you really listen you can hear the loop of the sound but it doesnt bother me, I mean I dont listen in anticiaption for it. It is better than the white noise from a fan because you can turn up the volume & travels w/ you, and wont dry your eyes out like a fan & not too breezy in the winter. I paid extra shipping last time to get mine here quicker because I found it very hard to sleep w/ out it when my last one finally quit.

I have purchased one of these for each of my two children within the last 2.5 years. My older child's machine started to fail within 6 months - once turned on, the white noise would fade in and out, or turn off completely while she was sleeping. Same thing happened in less time (3 mos?) for second child's machine. Bought replacement for both, and they're starting to do the same thing. I will be sure to spend more $ on a nicer brand in the future.

I have difficulty falling asleep. This sound machine forces me to concentrate on the shushing and monotonous noise of the waterfall instead of my thoughts and, inevitably, I fall asleep! Lately, my sound machine has proven to be a life saver, literally. I sleep with my windows open. Alas, a mockingbird has adopted one of our trees and he/it sleeps only until 1:30 AM, after which he begins his interminably varied nocturnal chants! The bird, I am told, marks his territory by imitating the chant of other birds. Even though his memory is quite remarkable, when I hear him in the wee hours of the morning, I have thoughts only for a BB gun. My daughter suggested I purchase a HoMedics sound machine instead of disposing of the bird. Done! I set my sound machine volume just high enough to drown out the birdie's unwelcome ditties and sleep soundly till morning. :-) P.S. It also prevents my grand children from waking up too early when they visit!

We've used the product for five nights with excellent results. It functions perfectly. We use the AC plug and keep it on a table near the bed. However the ocean waves crashing are too loud and too frequent.

The only true "white noise" settings we end up using are: RAIN, NIGHT, and WATERFALL. The others are either too loud or too disruptive to help us sleep. Very nice product, very good value. And I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewer who wrote that it's better than a trip to the pharmacy.
