5.0 out of 5 stars Am really happy w/purchase
I ordered this item for my husband for Valentine's Day. I was a bit nervous b/c of the mixed reviews, but figured if it was not what I was looking for, we could just send it back.

To be honest w/you, I LOVE this product! The time projection on the ceiling is great! And while the face is a bit bright, that does not bother me at all b/c I don't need a room...

It's "Back to The Future" with this Clock because; The Atomic Clock sync and the projection features bring it up to the "future", BUT the dual-mono speakers and AM/FM analog dial throws this clock right into the past.

Further breakdown of the Pros/Cons:

Pros:
- Atomic time sync
- Wall projection (with focus ring and angle of projection adjustment)
- Timer function (15, 30 or 60 minute auto-shutoff via "Timer" button press)
- Built-in CD Player
- Rainforest, Ocean, Summer Night and Rain sounds are decent

Cons:
- Analog dial for AM/FM stations??!! With all the other digital features on this clock, why couldn't they add some basic digital AM/FM features? You can't preset any stations, you can't even see what station you're currently on (except to listen for the Station Name to be announced)
- WAY TOO BRIGHT display. Even at the lower brightness setting the always-backlit display is so bright it casts very noticable shadows! I like to sleep in as dark an environment as possible, but with this Clock on it's like sleeping under a full moon!
- The Thunder and Waterfall sounds are disappointing, sounding like nothing more than white noise.
- It's got 2 speakers, but as a previous reviewer already mentioned...They're not of high quality audio output.

This was a Christmas gift from my Wife, she knew I wanted a projection dispaly alarm clock with Atomic sync and she liked the idea of the Nature Sounds to sooth our new 6week old son. But I don't think I'll be able to live with the shortcomings of this clock so we'll be doing an exchange soon.

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth buying it, October 22, 2005
This review is from: HoMedics SS-6000 Sound Machine with CD, Atomic Clock Radio and Time Projection (Health and Beauty)
I thought I got a small stereo set but it has two MONO speakers so the sound is not harmony. The projection is small and angle is adjusted backward (who can see the projection on the back during sleep?). I couldn't get atomic clock to automatic set the time by following the instructions. Also it is HUGE that it occupies the entire table and the LCD is too bright to affect your sleep.

It is not CD changer which it fits one CD only so that you won't be able to wake up by different CD. Go find another projection clock if you love that feature. The one I got instead is "Oregon Scientific RM313PNA" which has big display on projection and cost much less. Read my review for details.

3.0 out of 5 stars Only Atomic alarm clock CD player combo I could find., March 24, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HoMedics SS-6000 Sound Machine with CD, Atomic Clock Radio and Time Projection (Health and Beauty)
I wanted an atomic clock for time accuracy, and I preferred one with CD also. Don't care about the "nature sounds", but I did listen and they sound like nature sounds to me, so I guess they work.
Atomic clock was position sensitive, I had to move a dresser to get the clock in a position where it had a steady signal.
The backlit LCD was -way- bright, but it does have two settings, bright, and brighter. I moved the selector half-way in the middle and it shut the back light off. much better. :)
The projector works good, but I wish it was more swivelable/versatile. it pivots from straight up to straight off the back, not side to side at all. It is a -tad- bright, but very livable.
The sound quality is OK, and quite adequate for a clock radio. It will play relatively loud, and the volume knob is very desensitized, so you can fine tune the audio to very subtle volume changes for night listening. Great feature.
I gave it an average rating because for the price, it seemed a bit lacking. If you want a CD, alarm clock, atomic clock combo, its the only one I found and it does all those, but at a premium cost.

I ordered this item for my husband for Valentine's Day. I was a bit nervous b/c of the mixed reviews, but figured if it was not what I was looking for, we could just send it back.

To be honest w/you, I LOVE this product! The time projection on the ceiling is great! And while the face is a bit bright, that does not bother me at all b/c I don't need a room to be pitch black while I am sleeping. We absolutely love the sounds! The ocean is our favorite, but our 2 yr old favors summer night. From my point of view, I think the sounds are relaxing, realistic, and pleasing to the ear. I also think the sound quality is great. I mean, we don't want it loud to begin with and don't need surround sound quality to sleep with. This machine serves its purpose. It also has the CD player, which we have not used yet b/c of the sounds and the radio. Again, I don't mind that it is not digital b/c it is not why I bought the machine and find that if I have to turn the dial to get a station, it is not a big deal. It's all about personal preference, but I think this machine far exceeds what I was expecting and that makes me quite happy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Sound quality OK, display too bright, January 4, 2006

I received this as a Christmas present. I thought that the sound quality of the nature sounds was above average (though the ocean still sounds like white noise). I also liked the time projection on the ceiling.

Unfortunately, the display is WAY too bright. Even on the dim setting I can turn it away from my bed and still read a book without any other lights on. I also don't like that the radio does not have a digital tuner, and the AM/FM selector is located on the back. I like to flip around stations. Needless to say, I have returned the unit.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad production, September 5, 2006
This review is from: HoMedics SS-6000 Sound Machine with CD, Atomic Clock Radio and Time Projection (Health and Beauty)
i loved the idea of this radio. it had everything i needed. the only things i didn't like about it was, #1) the time display was way too bright. it lit up my entire room and i like my room pitch black when i sleep. #2) the sounds did not sound natural. they sounded computer made and you could tell it just repeated the sound over and over. other sound machines i've had in the past were real sounds recorded and you could never tell when it was in it's loop. so it went back. =(

2.0 out of 5 stars Love the bells and whistles but poor quality parts.., April 15, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HoMedics SS-6000 Sound Machine with CD, Atomic Clock Radio and Time Projection (Health and Beauty)
I love all the bells and whistles with the nature sounds, cd and radio. But right out of the box the cd player didn't work and I had to return it, the second one worked fine for 36 days then the alarm function only worked some of the time, some mornings it didnt't go off at all! The display is defineitely way too bright, even on the lowest setting. Although the features are good the quality of the workmanship is poor. I'm returning it one last time and looking for a better product.

this product is exactly as described. the sounds are cool. if you use a cd for the alarm you can select any track on the disc to play. i liked it enough to buy one for a friend as well as myself. the shipping was prompt. i highly reccommend this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you want to be late for work, buy this clock!, August 20, 2007

This clock is a genuine POS. I bought this for my wife for Christmas 2006 because most of the CD clock/radios these days seem to take a PhD to work them (and we only both have master's degrees). Although this one is fairly easy to use, it had a hard time picking up satellite reception no matter where we moved it. A couple of months in it started to occasionally lose satellite connectivity and pick a random time making her late for work. This happened a few times until now it won't sync up with the satellite at all and I can't manually set the clock because it loses my setting when it tries to sync up.

On top of that, the projector lens broke the first day I got it, and the radio reception sucks, and sound quality is poor. If you want to waste your money like I did, be my guest, but I wouldn't bother.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS CLOCK!!!, May 14, 2007
This review is from: HoMedics SS-6000 Sound Machine with CD, Atomic Clock Radio and Time Projection (Health and Beauty)
We bought this clock in January and everything was wonderful until now. The one day we woke up to the coffee maker brewing and it startled us why the clock didn't go off. Then we saw that the clock was an hour before. So I reset it and took it off the atomic signal. That didn't work. At 1 AM it searches and corrects itself even if it is off the signal. For the past week and a half we have been using our cell phones as alarm clocks. If we wanted to use our cell phones, we wouldn't have bought this nice clock. I tried to write the comany and I got no responce. I saw in the book they want $10 if we send it back to them for "repair". We should just spend a little more and get a better clock.
