4.0 out of 5 stars rating based on value -- a great fountain for the price
Ok, so it's not the same as a $2000 stone fountain but for the price this is a great way to add something different to a room (I have mine in an upstairs bathroom). The sounds are all great, you can change the volume and the rate of water flow. A few of the nozzles don't seem to "rain" but you can't really tell from the front as it looks just fine. It is easy to fill...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice as a decorative item - but not for relaxation., March 30, 2005
This review is from: HoMedics WRF-REL EnviraScape Illuminated Rainforest Fountain with 6 Natural Sounds (Health and Beauty)
First of all my wife would probably give this four or five stars - she loves it. As it is reasonably cheap it earned an extra star from me. If I had paid any more for it I would have been tempted to give it two stars.

If I disliked this item so much we could have returned it. However I must admit that it makes a nice decorative conversation piece - however we had purchased it for relaxation purposes - which I think is what it was designed for. I feel on this level it fails considerably.

It was simple enough to put together - once you figured out how to do it properly. As is too common these days the instructions just werent clear enough. Most of the times I tried to submerge the pump under the water (something I didnt figure out I had to do for a while) the connecting tube would come away from the pump - but I got it there in the end.

YOU SHOULD NOTE THAT WATER WILL SPLASH OUT OF THE DEVICE ONTO YOUR SURFACE. This can be annoying - they have however provided a little matt to sit it on, but I feel this isnt the most decorative way to display such an item. So be prepared to have to wipe down the surface at least daily.

Ok so when its on and your awake - it looks nice - with the water running down in constant streams and the nice colourful subtle lighting. We looked forward to firing it up when we went to bed (we have alot of street noise which we hoped to dampen out.)

The description of this item says it sounds like some tropical downpour in some country or other. I would personally describe it as sounding like a toilet cystern that is constantly filling up after flushing and needs fixing. It doesnt sound like rain to me. Secondly whilst the electronic "natural" sounds are ok, with no noticeable loops and a decent sound quality, they could have been timed to sound more relaxing. They are too intense. For example for the one sound setting - instead of a couple of distant crickets and the odd insect chirping up every now and then, it sounds like a hundred animals before an earthquake - chirping loudly and constantly to the point it is annoying. The loon setting is ok but sounds like a horror movie audio-track. Sunrise sounds like the music to a cheap Yoga DVD and windchimes sounds like a two year old child messing around on a casio keyboard. I thought that the item could redeem itself with "Thunder". I find thunder storms very relaxing. However I was disappointed to discover that it is literally constant rolling thunder. There are no natural gaps between thunder claps, it sounds more like a warzone with bombs hitting in the distance all the time. As I said my wife loves it, I however dont. But as the wife loves it its staying - and it looks pretty I guess.

The sounds are all great, you can change the volume and the rate of water flow. A few of the nozzles don't seem to "rain" but you can't really tell from the front as it looks just fine. It is easy to fill and maintain. Plus, it's cheap enough that if after a year it breaks I can just replace it. It does spill a tiny bit out the front but on my bathroom counter it doesn't really matter, I just wipe it down. I only wish the sound portion had a "random" function that would change the sounds every once in awhile. It would also be great if the lights were synched to what the sounds were[]

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for relaxation; bad in design, July 9, 2005
This review is from: HoMedics WRF-REL EnviraScape Illuminated Rainforest Fountain with 6 Natural Sounds (Health and Beauty)
I've owned this fountain for about 3 weeks now and have tried using it daily for it's relaxing sounds which are quite nice. Unfortunantly, the downfall of the fountain (pun intended) is that it leaks quite a bit of water out of it's backside. What this means to you is that water leaves the basin regularly enough that it can ruin the pump when it runs nearly dry. Another disadvantage is the water flow adjustment just doesn't work! It's a terrible engineering design, but what do you expect for under $30!

Never-the-less, it's a relatively good buy for it's soothing sounds (both the waterfall and it's musical background) as well as it's pretty illuminating design.

P.S. Don't place anything electrical around it and be sure to keep it at cords length from the outlet!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, July 29, 2004
This review is from: HoMedics WRF-REL EnviraScape Illuminated Rainforest Fountain with 6 Natural Sounds (Health and Beauty)
I have had this fountain for about 4 months now and I LOVE it! It sits by my bed and puts me to sleep every night! I do not hear the pump on my fountain, only the wonderful sound of the rainfall. I have had sound machines in the past that were on too short of a sound loop, but the sounds on my fountain sound great and do not seem to repeat too quickly for my taste. The only problems that I have had are mineral buildups (I didnt use the distilled water as recommended) and that my housecat likes to drink the fountain water as it falls! Overall its a great product though!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best fountain Ever!!!, June 22, 2004

I have had many fountains, sound therapy machines, but this is the best yet! The way it is set up with the light cascading down over the rainfall is just hypmotizing. It will just put a person in a trance. The sounds are very soothing and adjustable, as well as unique. If you love the sound of the rain and want something extra special to look at, this is just for you. I have never seen a fountain that had more options, and was just plain awesome all around as this. For the relaxation, it is worth every penny and then some!!

I bought two of these units as Christmas Gifts and when it was Time to wrap them up and give them away I wanted them. I have been searching for this unit online and only found this joker selling a 39.95 unit for close to a hundred dollars. Wait until Amazon has a new unit like I did and get it for retail and don't get got.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Little Fountain Ever, July 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: HoMedics WRF-REL EnviraScape Illuminated Rainforest Fountain with 6 Natural Sounds (Health and Beauty)
We have had one of these in the office for about 8 months and it is quite simply the greatest little fountain ever. I don't know what the last reviewer meant by cheap plastic and a loud pump, its very sleek and the pump is quiet for us. It actually gets a lot of attention from new people dropping in the office. You can't go wrong (...) if you are looking for a relaxing and just plain fun little desktop fountain.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: HoMedics WRF-REL EnviraScape Illuminated Rainforest Fountain with 6 Natural Sounds (Health and Beauty)
Overall, I am pleased with this purchase. It did require assembly, and the instructions could have been clearer. The lights really do look nice and create a relaxing effect while the water is falling. The sound quality (and sound selection) is good with no noticable loops. I personally found the weight of the water falling to be somewhat heavy sounding - even with the pump set to "lowest" and the water speed dial turned far down, the sound of the water falling was rapid, and it wasn't - at least to me - entirely calming. But, the fountain gives you lots control over the amount of water that is released.

As for pump noise, I noticed that in a silent room with the pump at face level, within a couple of feet of space, the pump was audible. However, just placing it about 6 feet away removed any recognizable sound from the pump. There is a volume setting for the recorded sounds, and you may adjust the sound of the water at will, so I'd recommend turning those up, and moving the pump somewhat away from where you're resting.

One reviewer wrote that the plastic looks cheap - I disagree. It's visibly plastic, but that shouldn't come as a surprise. The plastic itself looks perfectly fine.

It works well, and doesn't cost much. I'm happy with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Assembly required, December 26, 2004

This review is from: HoMedics WRF-REL EnviraScape Illuminated Rainforest Fountain with 6 Natural Sounds (Health and Beauty)
I bought this fountain for Christmas. It took me awhile to assemble the tubes and the wiring stuff. I never realized that you can't change the colors to only show one color. It changes colors so quick that you can hardly notice. As another reviewer said, it does spit out a little water in the front, so you really need to place down the little mat thing. The music is ok, nothing special about it. But it is a nice little gift for someone.

This is the absolute best fountain I've seen yet! I have several fountains in my home, but I have never had quite a unique and facinating experience as with this fountain. The sound is crystal clear and the different sounds are so incredibly natural. I gave it as a gift and am definitly getting one for my nightstand! It's simply incredible and just beautiful. The effect is totally hypmotizing! My brother saw the one I gave my sister and just went crazy over it. He is buying one today! This fountain deserves a 5!!!!!
