It's not easy to mess up a hoagy carmichael song but the arranger (whose name i could not find in the book) manages it. this is an early intermediate book, at best, and despite all the hoopla about the research, my guess is that people found early easy sheet music arrangements, and photostated them oblivious to the fact that just because they were the first arrangements doesnt mean they were good. these sound like arrangments written for the public at the time the songs were written - namely for people who played their own pianos and whose basic skill level was beginner.

i think that if the publisher spent less time doing biographical inserts such as photographs of hoagy carmichael with his first wife (sorry, but really who cares?) and spent more time on like the actual music (i care about that) we would be better off. theres a place for biography and criticism and its not in the middle of a second rate collection of arrangments.

I was very pleased with this collection. Being a pianist, I really like some of the piano solos in it. I had it spiral bound & now it is very user friendly at the piano.

Good arrangements, good music. I am not so proficient that these are easy, but the songs that I like are do-able if I work at them a while.

I did finally get my copy of the Hoagy Carmichael. [The first one was missent to a drug dealer on the next street over called Big Louie--no I'm not lying!]. I LOVE the book and highly recommend it to anyone who likes good music.
