This review is from: Hoang Anh: A Vietnamese-American Boy (Hardcover)
Since my mother is a teacher, i was rummaging through her stuff when I found this gems. Though, the beauty parlor(where Hoang Anh's mom works) stereotype, its true for the most part. It was interesting reading about the stories and finding out he wanted to be a football player. It makes ya wonder where he is now.

An excellent view of Vietnamese-American life,
This review is from: Hoang Anh: A Vietnamese-American Boy (Hardcover)
"Hoang Anh: A Vietnamese-American Boy" combines text by Diane Hoyt-Goldsmith with photos by Lawrence Migdale. The book tells the story of a young boy and his immigrant family.Hoang Anh and his family live in San Rafael, California, where his dad works as a fisherman and his mom works in a beauty parlor. We learn how Hoang Anh was born in a refugee camp in Malaysia. We also see his multicultural classroom and learn other aspects of his life. An especially interesting part of the book is Hoang Anh's visit with Phuc Huu Tran, a Vietnamese scholar and refugee who acts as a cultural elder. The book includes a couple of Vietnamese folktales, a map, and glossary. The colorful photographs really bring Hoang Anh's world to life. An excellent educational book for younger readers.
