5.0 out of 5 stars Still The Best Source, March 7, 2006
This review is from: Hoaxes (Paperback)
Though written ages ago, MacDougall's book on hoaxes is the best place to go to get a thoruough grounding in the colorful history of the hoax. As a journalism prof at the Medill School at Northwestern, he and his students collected everything they could for decades, and there are hundreds of examples here-- it makes for amusing reading. My favorite is Pavel Jordanovitch and his new art "ism," Disumbrationism. Oy! People used to be so gullible! (Used to be?? Check the latest at Snopes.com to see the same old hoaxes still fooling millions every year.)

So: if you're looking into hoaxes, begin with "Hoaxes."
