Got this welder for some small fab. jobs and hobby work. It was very easy to get started welding with this welder and can make an amateur look like they know how to weld. Amazons price was the best I could find.

Bought this welder and it rocks. Will take a 44LB spool of wire. Would recommend this to anyone looking for an all around unit.

I replaced a welder that I was well satisfied with, but I had owned for over 20 years. I just thought it was time to replace it, but a similar welder of the same brand as I had was several hundred dollars higher. I was a little reluctant to change brands, but the price on the Hobart was hard to beat so I took a chance and I'm glad I did. Maybe it is new technology, or maybe it is just a great welder, anyway it has exceeded my expectations. It welds smooth, and fills gaps without burning through. If I had changed to a different brand, or type, of welding wire, I would suspect that had something to do with the amazing difference, but I pulled the roll of wire from the old welder and installed it in the new one, so it has to be the machine quality that makes the difference. This was only my second purchase from Amazon, but both experiences have been great.

I bought this to replace a Hobart Beta Mig 250 that I used for 20 years for fabricating and light manufacturing. I use it exclusively with CO2 shielding gas and .035" ER70S6 wire. This unit welds smoother than the older Beta Mig 250. It is a powerful industrial machine. Many things are kind of cheap about it, but overall I am happy with it. It comes with a gas regulator that connects to an argon type compressed gas bottle. The liquid CO2 bottles take a different connector and regulator, so am glad I still had my old CO2 regulator and hose. The mig gun on this welder seems light and cheap. Broke the insulator out of the gas nozzle first time I pulled it off. The torch always seems to lay on the trigger when you set it down. Had to learn to be real careful about that. It is good that it is 15 foot long (a lot better than 12 foot!). The ground clamp is cheap and should be replaced: the jaws are only brass on one side and no jumper strap to the second jaw. If the machine runs rough? check the ground clamp for heat. Replace it if it gets hot.

After almost 2 years of use I have put about 500 lbs of wire through this machine: 44 lb. spools. Recently, it started welding rough. Checking inside with a voltmeter, I found the contactor relay switch (that clicks shut when you pull the trigger) had excessive voltage drop across it. Was surprised that it was a cheap 3 pole 30 amp motor starter relay commonly used to start air conditioner fans. The 3 poles are bridged together and it switches the WELDING CURRENT!! (after the transformer...). The contacts were fried and it had developed resistance and a voltage drop. It was only about $40 for a new one, but it was riveted on and sort of a hassle to change out. Also, I noticed the gas solenoid valve is made with a PLASTIC body valve (how chintzy!).

For the price you can't beat it. Made by miller, and all parts can be had at your local miller dealer.

Dislikes
Power cable and ground cables to short (I'll have to
change both).
Wire guide doesn't line up with rollers.
Page 22 settings using 75/25, .035 wire runs to cold, need to go up one step.
For 50 cents you could put a purge button on, I get tired of opening the machine and releasing the roller pressure, or I could waste wire.

Likes
Good smooth arc.
Voltage has 12 tap settings (variable would be better, but it's a price thing).
Fan on demand

Comments
The chain that holds the tank of argon fits loose, put a wooden wedge between the chain and tank.
Cut a piece of 5/8" plywood that fits snug where the bottle sets, then cut a circle the dia. of the tank and that will keep the tank from moving.
Remember MIG needs a good ground.
The bottom line if you price 250amp Lincoln or Miller with a spoolgun, you will get the Ironman 230, unless maybe your going to make a living with a welding machine.

This machine replaced a Millermatic 150 that I had for over 10 years. This is a large machine, and, at 200 lbs., is not a portable welder. The machine quality appears equivalent to Miller. The Hobart has a softer arc that is very stable. I have not used it yet for other than a few small welds but am impressed with its ability to weld thin metal; I never had any doubt about thicker stock. The Hobart is nearly infinitely adjustable and therefore can be finely tuned for different materials and welding styles. This is a serious machine and I would not use it on less than a circuit rated for 50 amps.

Haven't recieved mine yet, but used one and it is a workhorse.....UPDATE, just got it after only 4 DAYS! with Prime free shipping :)

I already have the Hobart 210MVP for 3 years and I can't hurt it-It's top quality...I'll give the 210MVP to my son.

I discovered as my need for a heaver welder increased, I needed to weld 3/8 to 1" steel often when welding monster mudtruck suspension items....My little Hobart 210MVP just couldn't burn it in but tried hard.

So I just ordered the IronMan tonight.

I've used this welder at a friend's house. I fully expect it will last me for many years. Hobart makes top quality welders. The rest of my gear is all Hypertherm and HTP TIG, so I don't nickle-dime when it comes to welding machinery....I simply know from experience the Hobart make top quality and reliable equipment.

WHEE!, just got mine today a day early. It arrived in perfect condition. It welds fantastic ! I installed a 125 CFT bottle in the builtin rack, but there is plenty of room for a 330 ft bottle in case you were wondering.
