This review is from: Hobart 500526 Handler 210 Professional Series Powerful and Portable Spoolgun Ready 210 Amp Mig Welder (Tools & Home Improvement)
This welder is a big step up from the little Lincoln SP 135 (120 volt) that I've been using for years. I've been building a heavy duty utility trailer for the last month or so and this unit has absolutely no problem, with or without gas shielding, creating quality welds with deep penetration on all the thick girders and cross pieces. It also did a good job welding the thin sheet metal of the fender skirts to the heavy angle of the trailer bed. I still have to do a bit of experimentation with the wire feed speeds to get optimum results. It was easy to set up and I've used it for both inner shield wire and solid wire with a CO2/Argon mix.
If gas will be used, it's important to buy a good cart too. The welder is not light and combined with the tank and all the cables, it's a pain to maneuver around the shop. I bought the Hobart cart too and it was worth the extra 120 bucks. They could have put more quality into the ground clamp. It's thin stamped metal and it's marginal quality might account for the sputtering arc I get from time to time. I'll replace it with a larger solid copper one. It never reaches it's duty cycle limit on my jobs. But, if you're a pro, wait for a professional welders commentary.
