5.0 out of 5 stars A fine introduction, May 31, 2007
This review is from: Hobbes (Hardcover)
This book is a superb critical introduction to Hobbes. Peters writes clearly and incisively about Hobbes' life, his methodology (a peculiar mix of empiricism and rationalism based on Euclidean geometry and the mechanics of Galileo), natural philosophy, ethics, and theory of the state. Peters concludes his final chapter, on Hobbes' religion, with a wry comment on the vexed question of Hobbes' relationship with his Maker. Many books on Hobbes have appeared in the 50 years since Peters' study was first published. Few have been as worthwhile.
