Oakeshott provides a worthwhile addition to the philosophical discussion and it is useful to contend with his ideas. In his introduction, he articulates two approaches to philosophy. The first presents carefully demonstrated reasoning, while the second provides fully formed speculative visions. My preference is for the former rather than the latter. However, Oakeshott's ability to articulate these two approaches makes his writing illuminating even if his approach is "unorthodox".
