EXCELLENT! VERY FUN!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Hobbit (CD-ROM)
This game is amazing! This is one of the first children's games I have seen that is action-packed, with no swearing or blood/gore. When you make a kill, the charatcter simply blows up into flames. This game lets you encounter characters such as Gollum, Bard, Gandalf, Thorin, and more! You assume the role of Bilbo Baggins, who goes on the great adventure that "started it all". Your choices of weapons (All which you have to aquire) are Bilbo's Walking-Stick (You find this in a treasure chest in his house), with which you can hit enemies with and jump farther than he could before. Throwing-Stones (You pick these up along the way)which you use to knock down certain things and throw at enemies. And, of course, the best weapon of all, Bilbo's "ledgendary" sword Sting, which you aquire in the fourth level in a cave. Although this game is really fun, I do not recommend it for kids under the age of 8. Not because it is violent, but that the puzzles you have to solve are extremely hard. You do not have a map, which is why you can not get lost.In the game, you encounter Spiders, Goblins, wolves, Wargs, Stone-Giants and more. Here is the info on the levels: You start out in DREAM WORLD, a place to adjust you to the fighting combat you get used to. This takes place on the battlefield of the last level. Also, you have no health meter on that level, so you can not die but you get lots of practice. Once you've dreamed your way out of that level, it's back to basics like fetching a butter churn, finding a quilting needle, aquiring coins, getting food, and finding children in the level AN UNEXPECTED PARTY. This takes place in Bilbo's hometown in Hobbiton. Next, you're a little way through your journey and Thorin sees firelight just over the mountain. It's your job to go and see if it's safe in ROAST MUTTON. You also have to sneak past trolls and steal a Troll's wallet. This is the first "hard" part in the game. The tips are do not try and kill the Trolls. That will lead you to trouble. The other tip is when someone is walking away, run and when someone is sitting there, sneak past them slowly. The next level is TROLL-HOLE, and this takes place when you have to go find the cave the Trolls use to hide from the sun. In the end in the cave you find and aquire your sword, Sting. The next level is OVER HILL AND UNDER HILL, where you have to go get firewood for Bofur, but the rock it's on breaks and you get lost. You have to go back and fast, before wolves, Goblins, and Stone-Giants get you! The next level after that is RIDDLES IN THE DARK, where you have to free a dwarf from Goblins in order for you to escape. And yes, in the end of the level you meet Gollum! The level next is MIRKWOOD, where you encounter spiders and free the dwarves before the spiders eat them! The next level is BARRELS OUT OF BOND, in which you have to free the dwarves from Elves. You bring them in barrels and release them into the river where they go to the next level, A WARM WELCOME. In this level, you go to Lake Town and need to find an entrace to the Goblins and Mens lair. After you have solved that mystery, you go to INSIDE INFORMATION, where you have to go in and get out of Smaug's lair. The next level, THE GATHERING OF THE CLOUDS, requires you to find the Arkenstone for Thorin. This is one of the harder levels. And now, my favorite level, THE CLOUDS BURST, is The Battle of Five Armies. You fight mostly Goblins and Wargs in this level, but it is so fun! Buy this game now if you are an action lover! It's a great game!

I just finished it.,

Thsi took close to 20 hours. And, it only improves as it goes along. As a slow start brings questions about game quality, those questions are soon thrown out when you advance to the second of many worlds. The worlds are distinct and very colorful. The only weak point graphically is the Dwarves facial animations. This is mainly a platform style game with some small areas of tactical approaches thrown in , and the occasional, NEAR IMPOSSIBLE , battle to continue to the next destination. I had a blast. I am a PC gamer at heart, so the controls were not at all a problem. Mostly, it is controlled by the arrow keys and the mouse. With a few keys to activate your 'ring' and such. But, they are rarely ever needed. I enjoyed the variability of the game. As some say it is repetative, i found that to be the exact opposite for me. Overall, this was tremendous fun. I would grab this now that the price has dropped so much. It is truly worth every penny. Also, for a true hobbit fan, this sticks to the story pretty well. Great game.

This game is an awesome representation of the book. Not only does the characters represented properly in the game, the puzzles are certainly entertaining. The PC version of Hobbit has much more higher resolution than its console counterparts, thus not only it's beautiful, it's too cool. There is a lot of secret and charms throughout each level and I find it amusing to see certain little things that happen throughout Middle Earth.
