For the past couple years, I have been flying planes made by a different company but similar to the Aerobird III. So, I have quite a bit of experience to compare too. I received my new Aerobird III about a week ago. I've flown it about 15 or 20 times. I'd say the quality of the Aerobird is very good. Mine was quite a ways out of trim when I received it, but after correcting that I've found that it flies very well. I like that it has control rods. The planes I've been flying made by a competitor use nylon line (fishing line) to pull the controls one way and rubber bands to apply tension the other way. I think the control rods are much more dependable. I'd say this is not a good plane for a beginner. Even on low rate, it is pretty responsive. Even though I really like this plane, there are a few things that could be improved. The competitor's charger is capable of charging off AC or DC. I like this flexibility because a lot of the time I fly in my yard and don't want to mess with a 12 volt charger in my car. Another thing is that I prefer the two stick transmitter of the cometitor to the one stick and one slider of the HobbyZone transmitter. Lastly, the landing grear does not do well landing on grass. The wheels always catch and the plane flips over. It doesn't cause any damage to the plane though. Best of luck

Excellent RC plane, July 5, 2008

This is a zone 2 hobbyzone plane, it's intended for poeple with some experience with RC planes, if you have no experience you should seek help from a flight budy. This is an upgrade from another excellent plane the hobbyzone pahntom. This one is a lot more stable than the phantom, I guess it has to do with a larger wing area, it handles a lot more smother than my little phantom, controller works great, it's a very smooth plane. It's kind of a fast plane... this is my second plane, no issues at this point... no crashes at all (not even close to crash) even on my first flights. I will higly recomend this plane if you are upgrading from a 2 channel plane or some other trainer.

The plane is faster than many would like for their first flights, but I adapted fine. I think this is easier to fly (especially in wind) than the two channel versions. This is because you have pitch/elevator control that lets you control up and down movements. I've crashed mine pretty hard, required a new crystal in plane ($5) and a new wing ($15). Backin the air and ready to fly. I'm broken the fiberglass boom twice, repairing each time with JB weld and some bamboo skewer stints. Lots of fun. The radio receiver and motor control are built into one, which limits their future use. The servos are standard 3 wire that could be replaced or used in other planes if needed. Motor has plenty of power for ground takeoff. In grass you can hand launch and land with landinggear off for a 'belly landing'. Lots of fun. After 10 flights, I switched to pro mode which give you more control for mild aerobatics. This is a great learning tool on how to fly. Birds like to soar with it too.
