Deadbolt - the greatest band ever? You bet!,
By Elvis-from-Hell (Fort Lauderdale, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hobo Babylon (Audio CD)
Elvis, the Beatles, and Rolling Stones got nothin' on Deadbolt. Quite simply - Deadbolt is the greatest musical group to ever exist, regardless of genre. Combining the best elements of Link Ray-like dark guitar stylings, spy music instrumentals, the Cramps Psychedelic Jungle-era voodoo rhythms with Jim Thompson-like lyrics - these guys create one spicy bouillabaisse of sinister sounds. And on top of that, Harley Davidson may be the greatest, most expressive singer of all time.
Each album is so great in its own way, it's hard to identify just one as their best. I mean, is it really possible for mankind to identify just one work of Van Gogh or Da Vinci as "better" than the others or is it more accurate to say that they are all masterpieces? So it goes with Deadbolt - history will judge them as a band not by a single CD but by their entire oeuvre. Like I said, pure, unadulterated genius. And remember, never ride a box car with Patches the Clown - 'cause he's the meanest 'Bo you ever seen.

DEADBOLT at their best. A full rail hitchin' concept tied to the darker side of the myths & history of the hobo, plus set to a background of back-alley surf music! Harley Davidson's vocals layed over vintage surf riffs smooth out all of the scary edges of the lyrics. It's a must-have to your collection.

"...ya got me pretty good, buddy...",

these guys are great. the self-billed "Scariest Band In The World", they put out some awesome, chest thumpin' psychobilly and evil blues. I thought this album had it all, songs about dead hobos, dead women, dead gangsters.
The only thing I didn;t get was that this is not an 'edited' version, to my knowledge there's only one version, but they still bleep out all the f-bombs. A strange choice, why include em in the lyrics if your just gonna bleep em? Still good tho... my favorite tracks are "It Was You", "The Hearse", and "Someday I Will Kill You".

You want the curly hand? I swear I'll give it to you!,

Not Deadbolt's best, but yet another great album that paints a hellish picture of hoboes at their most colorful. Definitely an album that you can't just download over the internet. You have to check out the CD booklet for tantalizing recipies for hobo punishment. Only then you can truly understand the "twisted skipper"... My personal favorite is the ever popular "wine stain".

From the toothless court in Pocatello Idaho to a bar in Juarez Mexico the Hobo Babylon reigns. Just don't ride with Patches. If ya don't love it you deserve a Twisted Skipper. See ya in Box Car number 7.
