Just plain BAD.

Not recommended because of choppy plot, a recycled story, and uninteresting development of characters.

Incompetent and lazy and lacking in imagination.

If you just like to see people being tortured and killed, if you want to see close-ups of organs and blood and severed limbs - knock yourself out. If, however, you'd like a modicum of plot, character, story and competent acting to go with it, you might like to take your business elsewhere.

Various transients pitch up at a farm where the owners imprison and enslave their workers, and, in a limping hour or so, with no discernible story-line, are - you guessed it - tortured and killed. The film-makers seem to think their lame, predictable punch-line (I can't dignify it with the word 'twist') makes up for the rotten film preceding it.

What in God's name is the woman playing Lois doing? She seems to think she's playing Widow Twanky at Bognor Playhouse. Is she supposed to be a funny character? Why does the Michael Madsen character show no surprise and ask no questions when he is told the skeleton in the mother's closet is kidnap and murder? What are respectable actors like Dennis Hopper and Madsen doing in this mess anyway - was someone holding their loved ones hostage on a real torture-farm or something?

It's tempting to over-bash a bad film just to be clever, so I will say Madsen, Hopper and Connery are as skilful as the script allows, as for the most part were all the 'victims'. It's mainly the villains who turn in those pantomime performances.

The voiceover says that sometimes people stay in terrible situations because they have nowhere else to go. If that was the case with the real-life events 'inspiring' this cack, it's a pity the movie-makers did not explore that theme and make a more realistic, interesting movie instead of going for the gore-bore option.

Incompetent and lazy and lacking in imagination.

This film was very well done. It was not a typical horror film in that it was not easy to guess what the outcome of the film would be. The subject matter was scary as it involved the toughest of human emotions. From rage, insanity, aggressiveness and brutality, this movie did a great job of highlighting just how brutal human beings can be to one another. Dennis Hopper did a great job in the film and all of the actors were great in their roles. The setting as well as the actors really made the film spooky. With all of the horror films out today it is hard to find one that is still scary. This film is definitely scary - especially because it deals with the human mind and the very powerful things it can do.

This film was awesome! I loved Dennis Hopper's role as well as the
entire storyline. The characters were dynamic and the storyline was very
believable, which made it even scarier. It deals with the many emotions
that human minds are capable of, highlighting those that are the
scariest and most threatening towards other humans. We see these
thoughts come into fruition through human slavery, abuse and murder. I
really thought the storyline was atypical of most horror films. Not once
during the movie did I feel like I could guess what was going to happen,
which was definitely a plus! The entire movie came together well to make
a truly chilling tale.

If you're a Dennis Hopper fan I would definitely recommend checking this film out! This is not just a horror film. It goes deeper and explores how the mind works and the brutality that can come from human beings. The story takes place on a ranch that is already eerie enough, but what happens there is even scarier. Touching on themes such as violence, psychopathic tendencies, insanity and human slavery, this film is truly disturbing!

The look of the film is frightening alone, and the subject matter just adds to it. It is not a typical horror film where you can tell what will happen in each scene. It really kept me on the edge of my seat! The interesting story line as well as the great actors really made the film enjoyable - and scary!

This is another slasher/cannibal story that doesn't include co-eds. A ranch in East Texas takes in transients like a roach motel. They stay alive as long as they work and don't become a problem. The story introduces Trevor (Jason Connery) an an Iraq War veteran, with great expectations, but his he-man part left much to be desired. The cannibal family consisted of quite the colorful cast of backwoods characters, complete with the inbred make-up. The story seemed to move slow for a horror story as events appeared uneventful. Available on several multi-packs. Not recommended as a stand alone purchase.

Rape scene. No nudity.

"Hoboken Hollow" is a movie that just goes to show you that no matter how good your cast is, the movie will not be any good if the actors don't have anything to work with. Such is the case with this movie. The acting is not bad from actors like Robert Carradine, Dennis Hopper, Michael Madsen and C. Thomas Howell...those guys are good actors, but the script is lousy. This is just a mess of a movie. Basically, "Hoboken Hollow" is an attempt to cash in on the success of movies like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", but there is only one "TCM" and that is the original "TCM", and "Hoboken Hollow" is not TCM. There is no atmosphere, mood, theme or suspense to this movie. The action is lifeless and uneven. In short, "Hoboken Hollow" is a movie about a family that kills people just like the TCM family, but it just doesn't work here at all. All you have in this movie is a bunch of blood, torture and gore signifying much ado about nothing. What a shame...what a worthless waste of acting talent.
