5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas Movie!
This was a movie that I didn't think I would like but I watched it and I was wrong about thinking it wouldn't be a good movie and I just really liked it. It's about an elderly man who is played by Barnard Hughes, the man is a hobo who hops trains and travels all over the USA and getting the odd job here and there and since it's Christmas time he decides to visit his son...

It is a very heartwarming movie and I could definitely watch it again

4.0 out of 5 stars This Should Be On DVD!, October 7, 2005
A Kid's Review
Hobo's Christmas starring Barnard Hughes and Gerald McRaney is a good heart warming Christmas movie.Barnard Hughes plays a hobo who travels by sneaking onto box cars on trains, he arrives in a town where his son and grand children live hoping to get back in contact with them. His son played by Gerald McRaney doesn't want to have anything to do with his father because of feelings o resentment for him not being there for him when he was a child, disappointments and misunderstandings but his grand son and grand daughter want to see him so their father reluctantly lets him stay with them and the old man connects with his grand children and trys to mend the rift between him and his son. This movie is very good and I recommend the video to anyone who loves Christmas movies and I would love if the movie would be made available on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Christmastime Movie!, December 21, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Hobo's Christmas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I watched Hobo's Christmas on TV one year and I thought it was pretty good and had a great cast, especially Bernard Hughes and Gerald McRaney. It is a Christmastime movie that has some sad scenes but nothing too melodramatic or sappy and all in all it has a great message about love, family and forgiveness perfect for the Holiday season!

This movie is very touching and I like that. It reminds people about the love and caring families should have all year, especially at Christmas time. In my opinion, this is a good wholesome movie and I enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT FAMILY MOVIE!, December 10, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I recorded this movie from broadcast TV almost 15 years ago, and have almost worn out the tape! In my household, this movie is right up there with "A Charlie Brown Christmas," and "A Christmas Carol." I highly recommend it, and will probably order the DVD version, now that I know where to find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hobo's Christmas, July 17, 2005
After having seen the movie on TV years ago, I found it delightful and meaningful as ever. Barnard Hughes is a terrific actor, as were the other stars.

I would recommend this movie to all who love Christmas.

The VHS is as good as any DVD could possibly be. The audio and video were excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming., December 1, 2001
This review is from: A Hobo's Christmas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I came across this movie last month while searching to see what was on a video tape that simply said Christmas on it, we must have taped this years ago, I watched the movie expecting not to like it because I thought it would be too hokey and to my surprise I actually liked it. It is about an old man who is a hobo who hops trains and travels all over the USA, he decides to visit his son who he hasn't seen in years to try and make amends and so he can get to know his grandchildren who he has never met. It is truly a heartwarming movie that I would definitely watch again

This movie is great for teaching the forgiveness and loving consideration that it takes to build a strong family. I really appreciated viewing it with my family. It's a great Christmas show because it uses the Christmas story to show love.

2.0 out of 5 stars poor film lacking any real substance, December 19, 2003
This review is from: A Hobo's Christmas [VHS] (VHS Tape)
what better than a nice christmas film to set you in the mood for the festive season.well, steer clear of this jaded effort.a hobos christmas is the tale of well,a hobo, erm,at christmas!!!! thats the thing, theres no particular plot to it.the whole thing gives a rushed and jarred feel.for example, when moving from one scene to the next,a clip of a some generic city in the snow is shown.however it is obvious that a different type of film has been used, and the clips feel like they've been lifted from a news report.this gives the film a very unconvincing edge.also, the scenes stop and start abruptly, with no real explanation given to what happened before it or whats to happen after.it almost feels like the movie was shot and bits of it were chopped out at the last minute.on to the dialogue, which the less said about the better.its simply woeful, with the hobos son going on meandering monologues with no real conclusion.the scene where the hobo and his son are in the cafe is particularly lamentable. "the best salesman in the land","bats and balls, you could sell anything!!!!" are comic rather than sentimental.the characters themselves bearly interact with one another emotionally, and it gives the film a sterile feel.the whole thing is totally unbelievable.very little reference is made to time, which makes it difficult to get into.examples of poor realism are when the boy gets whacked on the ice rink, rather than saying oh god hes hurt, they just laugh!!! and he could be shouting oh me arm,its sore!!!! and the hobo himself, hes too prim and proper for a street hobo.and his friends, why would they be making the christmas dinner?? where were the beer cans, etc etc.would you leave you're kids at home with 5 mad hobos??? and where did the other mad hobo turn up to sing the carols from? why werent the hobos trashing his house, drinking strong lager and being sick, battering each other, forcing themselves on the hobos sons wife???? like what would happen in something even vaguely representing REALITY???!!!!! and dont think, ahh,it'll be good for the kids!!!! i must admit to laughing most of the way through this poor show, and must only be purchased for amusement purposes only!!!!! it gets 2 out of 5 for comic value,0 out of 5 for proper film, storyline and acting.
