4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Honest, July 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What a good book for those who want a book about David Hockney and his paintings. It is refreshing to read an artist's honest account of his life and art. Although you may not find all his art likeable but to read such an honest confession of his professional as well as his personal life can't help but make you appreciate his genius and courage. The book is consider a catalogue raisonne of his early work which makes it even more valuable to the art historian. I would say he was the Warhol of the west coast scene but David Hockney was willing to go beyond just two dimensional work and expands to theater and stage design and settings much like Picasso did in his early years.
